I served with 52 Squadron RAF from 1945 to 1947. One particular feature ignored in the article was the squadron's work supplying the forces of General Chiang Kai-shek flying from Dum-Dum (Calcutta) to Kunming. These were hazardous flights due to the fact that the mountainous terrain between India and China was not fully mapped and the operational ceiling of the Dakotas necessitated some clever navigation (assisted by the LORAN navigational radar)and expert piloting.Not one plane was lost.---- From walraymond
