Non-combat?
[edit]Why do we say, under "Vietnam and after": "Despite not being employed in an offensive role...."? The official roles were (DEPARTMENT OF AIR ORGANIZATION DIRECTIVE NO 5/64):
9. The primary task of the Flight is to co-operate with the United States Forces in the operation of a Combined South East Asia Airlift System. The Flight will operate in the short range transport role and may be employed on the following tasks:- (a) trooping, (b) supply transport, (c) supply dropping, (d) para dropping, (e) communications, and (f) medical evacuation.
To these, in practice, may be added flare dropping and combat assault, altho' the latter is probably covered by "trooping". So a. and c., plus the flare dropping, were, in my somewhat educated opinion "offensive". Subject to further discussion, I'll rewrite this para in a couple of weeks.Lexysexy (talk) 06:40, 15 January 2013 (UTC)
