This article is written in American English, which has its own spelling conventions (color, defense, traveled) and some terms that are used in it may be different or absent from other varieties of English. According to the relevant style guide, this should not be changed without broad consensus.

Title change

Hello, Very new to Wiki editing but have been checking this article from time to time. I'm planning on doing a lot of work on this article and will hopefully be able to start getting some much needed references added in the next few days.

Also: How about changing the article to "Nitriding" and redirecting Nitridization. Here's the results from Google Scholar for Nitridization:

for Nitriding: [2] just shy of 80,000

Would do it myself but I'm still learning and wanted to see if there was any kind of an issue with the change.

Started dividing things up into sections and am working on history at the moment.

I can back up everything I'm written so far though. Though it wouldn't hurt if someone could mark things that really do need refs. I'd help me get a feeling for what needs to be backed up and what can be considered common knowledge.

Thanks for starting the history section! I just want to make two small notes: Only the first word of a section should be capitalized unless the word is a pronoun and the introduction doesn't get a section heading. But like I said, these are very minor notes, and something you'll pick up with time. I'll try and add fact temps to the things that look like they need refs later on. Name

I have been working in the field of Metallurgy since 1968 and have never heard the process referred to as Nitridization, I am sure this is a 'made up' word and should be changed as poor nomenclature normally reveals a lack of basic understanding.

Clean up needed

This article needs a lot of work. First the advantages listed for plasma simplistic and sometimes simply wrong. Most of the important disadvantages aren't mentioned.

Btw: Plasma is NOT any quicker than gas nitriding (unless the gas nitriding is done very badly). The case properties for all of the nitriding processes are more or less identicle. Thats not entirely correct, the White layer thickness varies greatly between conventional (Oxygen less) Gas nitriding and Plasma nitriding, only with Added Oxygen it is possible for the gas nitriding to reach the same speed of white layer growth Marc Strämke (talk) 17:33, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
