Controversy section
See WP:CONTROVERSYSECTION. These sections become a "catch all" for POV material. Is the cabinet abstention really encyclopedic? If so, relocate it to an appropriate section. – Muboshgu (talk) 23:18, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

General notes
1b: Lead doesn't adequately cover the article. It seems too condensed to summarize the subject (nothing about her early/personal life and little about her early career) and nothing in the article talks about her gubernatorial candidacy or being a keynote speaker (see 3a). The lead is supposed to summarize what is in the article. I know there isn't that much to include but it can definitely be expanded.
3a: What was included in the article was focused and mostly well-covered. However, I found little on her race for governor which I feel should be a major concern to the article. The brief mentions of her being a keynote speaker at the 2020 Democratic National Convention and her candidacy for the governorship should be expanded on and shouldn't be included only in the lead. Many sources also reported on Wells Fargo closing her bank account and her early life, both of which are either nonexistent or lacking in the article. Her political views should also be included.
Is there anything to add to her personal life? An article shouldn't have a section composed of one-line paragraphs.
Early life and Career
https://www.tampabay.comundefined/: not sure this links anywhere. Were you trying to link this?"Her parents divorced when she was 13. Her mother, who became the sisters’ primary caretaker, found a job teaching at a preschool." (Nikki Fried: Florida's new agriculture commissioner) I'm assuming this is where the article gets "Fried was born in Miami to... Lori, a teacher." from. The article makes it seem like Fried's mother was already a teacher when she was born, but the source says she became a teacher after the divorce."Times recommends: Nikki Fried for agriculture commissioner" says she graduated with a law degree. "Florida’s only statewide elected Democrat is a 42-year-old Jewish rising star" doesn't speak on that (or maybe I missed it). Any source to verify she was "a member of Florida Blue Key, receiving her bachelor's degree in political science and her master's degree in political campaigning"?"Frederic G. Levin College of Law" where is this mentioned in the source?"of Holland & Knight" can't find a mention of this in the source cited."Fried was a foreclosure defense lawyer at her father's South Florida law firm from 2009 until 2011, when she joined the law and lobbying firm of Colodny Fass." I'm not seeing any reference to this in the source.- Can't find a mention in either source of her lobbying firm being located in
Broward CountyFort Lauderdale. It might be a good idea to add the name of her company which is mentioned in "Nikki Fried: Florida's new agriculture commissioner" (Ignite Florida). Red link to "2016 elections"
Florida Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services
Overall looks good. The main problems lie within the 2018 election.
Source doesn't say Caldwell is from North Fort Myers."Fried ran on a platform in favor of removing obstacles to medical marijuana in Florida, criticizing the state government's inaction in implementing Amendment 2." Seems like the information is being stretched a bit. She didn't really criticize it, the source just explains, "However, in the ensuing years since voters spoke on the issue, the state has dragged its bureaucratic feet on implementing it." All Fried said was that legalization was "inevitable", not really attacking/criticizing the state government in the source cited. What is the point of citing, "Fried declares victory in Cabinet race, announces transition team ahead of recount", the first time? Also, I can't find "a fierce advocate for expanding access to medical marijuana for suffering Floridians" mentioned in any of the sources cited.Where does "ensure full background checks are completed on gun permits" come from?"Fried also endorsed Amendment 4, which would automatically restore voting rights for most felons following the completion of their sentences." contrasts with "Fried supports Amendment 4, which would automatically restore voting rights for most felons." from the source.Where does it say she was endorsed by Everytown for Gun Safety in the source cited?
Electoral history
Looks good.
Personal life
See 3a.
I apologize again in advance if anything I have described as an issue is not. The last thing I would like to do is improperly review the article due to my novelty. Please fix or clarify what I have pointed out within a reasonable period of time. Thanks! FredModulars (talk) 01:47, 15 June 2021 (UTC)
- FredModulars, Thanks for doing this review! I'll look into the issues you pointed out later tonight. Curbon7 (talk) 01:50, 15 June 2021 (UTC)
- FredModulars, I amended the article per your suggestions. The personal life section was buffed out as much as possible. The lede was expanded with more information about her pre-election career, as well as the election itself. I added the 2022 election section, though since nothing has happened yet, it's bare for now; this is fine though, this section will buff itself out over time.
- The one thing that you suggested that I don't think is possible at this time is the proposed political positions section. The few positions that are sourced are already covered throughout the article so we'd just be repeating ourselves; it would also be very bare bones right now (i.e. it would comprise of the one-line paragraphs you mentioned). As with the 2022 election section, this section will certainly exist in a buffed out form by New Years; just right now I don't think it's feasible based off the few sources that exist. Curbon7 (talk) 11:33, 20 June 2021 (UTC)
- I understand that it would not be practical to do that now, though this should've been done in preparation for the review. I will look through it tonight. Thank you! FredModulars (talk) 02:46, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
Comments (June 20)
- Check categories; Fredric G. Levin remains
- I have briefly reviewed the three sources you included in the 2022 election. There is plenty to be added. In, "'I'm unafraid. I'm tested. I'm ready.' Nikki Fried to run for governor in 2022", it puts her criticisms of what she calls a rigged, anti-democratic system on full display. According to, "Florida’s Nikki Fried jumps into 2022 race to challenge DeSantis", Fried portrays her potential contender, Governor DeSantis, as dictator. Do not interpret this as me saying what you should put into the article, rather that, in my perception, the content covered here is lackluster and could be improved upon.
- Still can't find a mention in either source of her lobbying firm being located in Fort Lauderdale. I might be wrong.
- @Curbon7: Criteria has also been updated. The only major concern to me is GA 3a and potentially GA 3b.FredModulars (talk) 03:50, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
- FredModulars, Will handle it. Thanks so far, you've done a really good job! Curbon7 (talk) 03:53, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
- FredModulars, RE:
- Fixed the category, I didn't notice it.
- Buffed that section out much more.
- Lol ok I swear to god I'm not insane and there was a source that said it was in Fort Lauderdale and I could've sworn I linked it, unless I'm having Wikipedia dreams now. Regardless, I found a source that explicitly says Broward County. ("pro-marijuana lobbying shop “Igniting Florida” was in Broward...")
- . Curbon7 (talk) 12:07, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Curbon7: will look into changes today.
- "from Broward County" and "from Miami". The two don't equate.
- Very sad Florida is "rigged", lol. On a serious note, the section has been improved well, the sources check out and are all compliant with WP:V. Perhaps check MOS:SAID for "She noted Crist's...", but other than that it is a good improvement. Question: Where does, "Fried also differentiated herself from Crist, who has been a politician since his election to the Florida Senate in 1992", come from?
- All good! One more thing by the way: "Fried also endorsed Amendment 4, which would automatically restore voting rights for most felons." seems to encroach on WP:PARAPHRASE. Please change. FredModulars (talk) 07:41, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
- FredModulars,
- I'm assuming you're referring to the categories here. For cats, the "from" is not only where people currently live, but also previously lived. For example, Joe Biden was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, moved to Claymont, Delaware, and moved again to Wilmington, Delaware, and as such the cats track that. In this case, Fried was born in Miami and move to Broward Co., so the cats are accurate.
- Fixed the word, I swapped noted for described. Secondly, that sentence comes from source 54: "She didn’t take a direct shot at Crist in her opening salvo, but the contrast speaks for itself." Perhaps a slight rephrasing closer to the source may be better?
- Fixed (had to add a second soured for that part). Curbon7 (talk) 08:35, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
- FredModulars,
- @Curbon7: Thank you, sorry for my confusion with the categories. Are you sure it's source 54? I can't find it here. FredModulars (talk) 09:41, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Curbon7: will look into changes today.
- Okay, I found it in 55. I assume the extra source for Amendment 4 bumped it up one. My bad, you're all good.
- I'll be asking for a second opinion on this review. I am still a bit unsure of criteria 3. I recognize all the work you have done throughout the review, and I would not like to undermine that, but I would also not like to undermine the GA review process. In my view, the article passes, but I feel a second opinion might be necessary. FredModulars (talk) 09:48, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
- FredModulars, Sure, sounds good! Curbon7 (talk) 09:49, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
Closing and promotion
@Curbon7: After reviewing the article once again, I have determined it does meet the GA criteria and I will be promoting it as such. The references check out and are reliable, the images are well suited to the article and properly tagged, it is stable and shares both points of view of Fried, it is well-written, and it does adequately cover all that needs to be covered. Congratulations on your hard work and I wish you luck on your other GA reviews (I saw one or two on WP:FLORIDA). I hope you will prepare articles better before review next time, but overall great job! FredModulars (talk) 09:54, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
DOB
I have to ask, what is the reference for her date of birth? I am concerned without this we are in violation of WP:DOB. - Aussie Article Writer (talk) 10:50, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
