First verses or the whole Quran

[edit]

There is some confusion over "it is the anniversary of the night Muslims believe the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the Islamic prophet Muhammad".

Muslims around my community (I live in Malaysia) believe that Laylat al-Qadr is when the whole Quran is revealed to prophet Muhammad. The anniversary of the revelation of first verses (sura al-Alaq) is celebrated on another day called Nuzul al-Quran, which is literally translated as the descend of Quran. Indeed "Nuzul al-Quran" word is confusing as some might say it means the whole Quran.

Anyone care to clarify?

      • There should be no confusion over this matter. It refers to when the first words of the Quran were revealed to RasoolAllah (pbuh) (i.e. Iqra...)

The Quran itself was revealed over a period of 20+ years throughout the latter part of Muhammad's (pbuh) life as a prophet of Allah. For example, some chapters in the Quran revealed during earlier stages of prophethood are classified as "Meccan" and those revealed in the later stages of prophethood are called "Madinian".***

You should add the fact that if there is a new moon ( a full moon) that's when we know Ramadhaan finished. Pompomhead (talk) 20:04, 11 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

2020 and future dates

[edit]

@Saff V.: Would you mind adding the expected dates for 2020 and the next few years? I can't read that source you used for the Shia dates. Thanks so much. howcheng {chat} 17:40, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"24 April 2032"

[edit]

"24 April 2032" in the table in Night of Power#Shia Islam looks wrong. If it should be 2022 then 2023 is missing. Could someone have a look? --Marsupium (talk) 15:02, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What is QADR? How should the title be?

[edit]

The first meaning that Qadr evokes is value. The second is fate. "Qudrat" comes from the same root and means Power. Qadr can rarely be used to mean power. In the traditional stories of the Night of Power, it is told that people's fate (good or bad) will be written this night, and they are asked to pray until the morning for the fate to be good. For this reason, in my opinion, the page name being Night of Destiny rather than Night of Power is closer to the intended meaning. The word also has a bad meaning such as "to offend by someone".
