[edit]

If you think that Mr. Havers is well-known for "hatred of cyclists" then perhaps you should provide some citations for this. In the mean time, I'm going to continue to delete that whenever you put it back. DrHydeous 21:42, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou for providing your source for that. It still doesn't show that he hates cyclists though, so I've corrected the text to merely point out that he wrote an attack on inconsiderate cyclists. DrHydeous 17:31, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry DH, but I disagree. From the article in the Mail:

"Pomposity and selfishness runs through everything committed cyclists do."

and

"Cyclists have certainly changed in recent years. They think the rest of us are idiots and that they are the gods of the road."

and

[insert spurious red herring argument about environmentalism here]

The article is cloaked as an attack on inconsiderate cyclists but only weakly so. Havers' agenda is visible from start to finish; he conflates all cyclists with "two-wheeled monsters", despite his odd admittance to owning a bike himself.

However, I won't undo your changes; others can make up their own minds. — Hex (❝?!❞) 23:37, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The passage is certainly too long, but not irrelevant. I've tidied the article so that the "family and private life" and "controversy" sections are clearly separate from his career. The "trivia" section also contained significant material, so I incorporated it ito the main body of the article. Philip Cross 10:40, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Date Of Birth

[edit]

There seems a lot of conflicting info around regarding his date of birth.

Anyone have a definitive and reliable source? Failing that, I would suggest we go with what the man himself says, as indicated in my first link above. He may be wrong, he may be 'massaging the figures', but it's the most authoritative source available; himself. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 00:25, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't quibble with the 1951 date, but not because Havers himself said so. The thing is that, although an individual is present at their own birth, an advantage that most researchers cannot claim to have, they are hardly in a position to say with absolute authority exactly when that birth occurred. They know what date they were told by their parents, or what date appears on their birth certificate. Also, actors are a vain lot, and relying on what they tell the world about their ages is a very slippery slope. -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 19:19, 20 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Added citation to the England & Wales BMD registry, which says 1951. Theheartof (talk) 09:10, 9 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Comments on cyclists

[edit]

The section on Havers' comments on cyclists seems very out of place. I'm sure he's made many comments about many different things but that doen't mean they're relevent. Maybe I missing somthing but it just doesn't seem to be important enough to be in this article. SayPeanuts (talk) 21:33, 1 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No joke. I removed it. Meaningless tabloid trivia. Softlavender (talk) 00:06, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article that mentions father and grandfather

[edit]

I see that this Wiki article needs citations for the info about Nigel's father and grandfather. Here is one: [1]. Softlavender (talk) 00:04, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Radio work

[edit]

This article could do with a sub-heading "Radio Work". I have heard he was in a BBC Radio 4 sitcom called "Reluctant Persuaders", along with Josie Lawrence.Vorbee (talk) 19:02, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

1969 song

[edit]

Re this edit: there are problems with WP:OR, which says that "Articles may not contain any new analysis or synthesis of published material that serves to reach or imply a conclusion not clearly stated by the sources themselves." While I'm not saying that it isn't Nigel Havers singing on side B, this isn't clearly confirmed by the source at [2]. It's also rather obscure as the record label is the only online source that I could find mentioning this, so there are also problems with WP:DUE.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 06:18, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
