Personal life

[edit]

Might be worth including this in a "Personal life" section?

https://www.gaytimes.co.uk/culture/108862/nicole-byer-interview-sexuality-rupaul-drag-race-nailed-it/

How do you identify?
You know Samantha Jones from Sex and the City? She once said she was try-sexual, so she’d try anything once. That’s me. I identify as a person who just loves.

Seems like it's a real request from Nicole to remove content, not vandalism

[edit]

Listened to Nicole's podcast called 90 Day Bae (it's behind a paywall on patreon). In the episode from Oct 18 (The Other Way S3E7 and The Family Chantel S31), she actually does request removal of a lot of content. I think it just seemed like vandalism because of inexperienced editors. I'm also pretty new - how is this handled?

She specifically said that she feels like there is too much personal information and asked for removal of the sections: Personal Life, Racism in the industry and Comedic styling and everything after the first paragraph in early life.

I think the deletions came from her listeners. I'm one of the people who added some of this content because I was just trying to make the page more complete and fill it out with information from interviews I found. I don't mind removing it but not sure how it's handled.

@Coooohen, as a rule we don’t remove reliably sourced content just because someone is unhappy about it. That said, it should be from good secondary sources and not overly reliant on original research. I can have a look through and see whether anything seems problematic on that basis, or you can, but otherwise, mainly we respond to fix factual errors. We’re an encyclopedia, not anyone’s PR team. Thanks for the quick reply! That makes sense! A review from a more experienced editor would certainly be appreciated but all the content that I added was coming from secondary sources and her calls for removal weren't related to inaccuracy. Coooohen (talk) 17:05, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Given the attention this article has recieved I took a look. Following our WP:BLP policy, I removed information which I could not verify based on either the source given or elsewhere or whcih otherwise seemed more personal than necessary in an encyclopedic article. I also used the source material for some of the info which had previously been cited to Mashable. Courtesy ping to @Coooohen and Innisfree987:. Semi-protected edit request on 19 October 2021

Per Nicole’s podcast 90 day bay she feels like the page contains too much personal information. She would like the personal section removed. As well as the commentary on racism and comedic styling. Please look up 90day Bae at the 11 minute mark for the full request as well as a picture update. Topolino88 (talk) 17:18, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now: See the section immediately above this. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 17:31, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Hi @Topolino88. To start with the last item first, we would be delighted if Nicole was able to donate a more recent photo. This would require that she be the copyright owner (probably a selfie) or that the copyright owner (usually the photographer) donate the photo to Creative Commons or public domain. They can do that here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wikimedia_VRT_release_generator
Beyond that. Are there any factual errors that need correcting? If so, we definitely want to fix those. Here is a page with information about how Nicole can proceed on that: Wikipedia:Contact_us/Article_subjects. Innisfree987 (talk) 17:33, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the "Commentary on racism in the industry" section and merged a sentence from it into the "TV" section. We do usually cover information about both personal and professional life, as long as it's verifiable. But "too much" isn't a complaint about accuracy, and the earlier discussion didn't address whether all the material was due weight. A top-level section focused almost entirely on a single interview she gave seems like an example of undue weight. hinnk (talk) 19:51, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
