[edit]Referred to as Nick Smith in great many sources, e.g. Dundee Courier 15 Oct 1896 and 26 Feb & 17 Dec 1897 (both Nick Smith of Rangers), Aberdeen Weekly Journal 10 April 1899, Glasgow Herald 25 Sep & 6 Nov 1899 (also Nick Smith of Rangers), D Mirror 2 Nov 1904 ('against Scotland in 1899, on the Aston Villa ground at Birmingham, when the English team gained a great victory by 2 to 1. I had to go into the dressing-room at the close of the match, to interview G.O. Smith, the English captain, and "Nick" Smith, of the Rangers, the Scottish captain.'), and The Story Of The Rangers 1873-1923 (John Allan).
