[Improving this article]
[edit]Hi Avatar317, my improvements to this article are repeatedly being undone and blocked by you. I'm new here but acting in good faith and attempting to use the highest quality sources, as per your request.
Please let me know about your interest in this subject and point of view.
Most recently, my changes were undone with the message: 'His own opinion articles, published in the NYT or wherever, are NOT Reliable Sources for FACTS about him or what he is doing; they can only be used to source information about his opinions.' But, I was only linking to these articles to show where Shaxson has written, in response to an earlier objection that linking to his bio was not a good enough source.
The Guardian link, for example, shows that he co-founded the organisation Balanced Economy Project. In addition, Avatar317, in undoing my most recent edits, you have reactivated a dead link - to website of the book Treasure Islands - which I had removed. Please stop blocking my edits without showing good faith. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matt5832 (talk • contribs) 11:01, 20 August 2024 (UTC)

- If you did your edits in smaller pieces, like the dead link change by itself, than I could leave that while reverting the others.
- You sourced him as a founder of the Balanced Economy Project to an OPINION article in the Guardian WRITTEN BY HIM. If you can find an article NOT WRITTEN BY HIM which talks about his projects/achievements, that is where this sort of information should be sourced, per Wikipedia's policies on sourcing: WP:RS and WP:IS.
- Wikipedia is not here for WP:PROMOTION, it is here to describe people as they are described BY OTHERS in Reliable Sources. ---Avatar317(talk) 23:24, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- I linked to a Guardian page that describes Shaxson as "co-founder of the Balanced Economy Project" (https://www.theguardian.com/profile/nicholas-shaxson)
- Previously, I had linked to a write up by the Tax Justice Network where he *used* to work with more info about the Balanced Economy Project (https://taxjustice.net/press/nicholas-shaxson-to-lead-new-anti-monopoly-organisation/) I can also point to the actual website of the organisation that lists him as co-founder (https://www.balancedeconomy.org/about-us). But you objected that these were too close to the source, hence the Guardian link.
- Open Democracy describes him in a similar way (https://www.opendemocracy.net/pt/author/nicholas-shaxson/) as does this page from UCL (https://www.ucl.ac.uk/laws/events/2022/may/hybrid-competition-law-and-financialisation-workshop). Shaxson is co-founder of the Balanced Economy Project - this is not made up.
- Also, you say that Wikipedia is here to describe people as they are described by others - but you also deleted a direct quote from Paul Krugman in the NYT about Shaxson. I'll be reinstating some of my changes. If you think what I've written is too promotional, please find other high quality sources with a different point of view. I look forward to you working to improve the article not just remove and deleting legitimate content and improvements. Matt5832 (talk) 10:25, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
- If no RS's (like newspapers) describe his new project "Balanced Economy Project", than frankly we don't care about it. It isn't important enough to be mentioned in Wikipedia. Thousands of people have thousands of non-profits and create their "projects" to advocate for their causes; unless this is reported on than it doesn't belong in Wikipedia. ---Avatar317(talk) 23:17, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
[Untitled]
[edit]Some very questionable references including to the biography which he wrote himself???
Very dubious that this should be included at all as a Wikipedia page
