gone nutty
[edit]The guy's become a critic of "homosexual activists" who have "captured" the APA, sacrificing science for the sake of politics. Claims that "straight white males" are underrepresented in the organization.

- Really? "Gone nutty" is the title you put on Wikipedia for a professional whose professional opinion you dislike? 92.54.176.200 (talk) 16:59, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
- More like senility than professional opinion. And it should be be mentioned in the article, as his bullshit is used by homophobes to defend their opinion. 141.77.225.60 (talk) 11:48, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
- So someone whose professional opinion you dislike is also "senile" and his opinion is "bullshit", and people who disagree with you are also "sufferer from a phobia". Ooooook. 2.101.248.124 (talk) 16:02, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
Category idea and contrarian quote
[edit]Should we create a Category:Reparative Therapy Supporters for him, and put Nicolosi, Socarides, and Richard Cohen into it? --Uncle Ed (talk) 15:20, 25 December 2013 (UTC)
- No, creating a "reparative therapy supporters" category is an awful idea. Furthermore, if you want to add material about Cummings's support for reparative therapy, you should be prepared to find a better source - the New American is published by the John Birch Society, and it's fringe. FreeKnowledgeCreator (talk) 20:24, 26 December 2013 (UTC)
- How about USA Today?
- Of the patients I oversaw who sought to change their orientation, hundreds were successful. Op-Ed Column, July 30th, 2013
- If you have no objection, I'll use this source for "Cummings believes that homosexuals can change." Okay? --Uncle Ed (talk) 17:22, 27 January 2014 (UTC)
- How about USA Today?
I waited three months, but there was no objection to the USA Today quote, so I added it to the article. --Uncle Ed (talk) 14:58, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
- It's no good. I've reverted it. You added, 'Cummings wrote, "Of the patients I oversaw who sought to change their orientation, hundreds were successful."' You just can't add an out of context quotation like that, when there's no indication of what it is based upon. It's also very inappropriate to describe Cummings as holding a "contrarian position" on conversion therapy, as it is not even clear what that is supposed to mean.
