Population numbers
[edit]What is the source for the population numbers of Ni-Vanuatu in New Zealand, Australia and the USA? I find those numbers very hard to believe. Bobbbcat (talk) 23:19, 5 December 2018 (UTC)
To add to this, the Pacific Island population in New Zealand is 295,941, this page says 160,000 of these are Ni-Vanuatu. Bobbbcat (talk) 23:26, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

Let's avoid content-forking
[edit]- @Jhuang1414 has introduced on two occasions (one, two) amounts of text which are well-intentioned, but have one main flaw: they recreate from scratch contents that is already present on WP, e.g. on Vanuatu, History of Vanuatu, Culture of Vanuatu, Music of Vanuatu, Vanuatuan cuisine, Bislama, etc. etc. (On Wikipedia it's called content forking, and it should be avoided.) Why reinvent the wheel, and cram so much contents into the present Ni-Vanuatu entry?
- Besides, there is a real risk of going off-topic: the origins of Bislama for example, are already treated in the entry Bislama, and they have nothing about the concept Ni-Vanuatu per se (besides, the text added about those origins had several inaccuracies). The present entry is really about the term (ethnonym) Ni-Vanuatu, it should not be an excuse for writing up everything we know about the country. On top of that, many inaccuracies have been introduced, which I've begun to correct, but there is still a lot of clean-up to do. This entry should focus on the term Ni-Vanuatu, that's all; all aspects of Vanuatu culture, music, languages etc. are already covered in other entries. Please edit those entries instead, that will be more constructive. Ating bae imogut spos yu editim ol narafala entries (olsem Music of Vanuatu, etc.), be yu no pushum evri topik imas kam long entri ia. Tankyu tumas -- Womtelo (talk) 09:40, 31 May 2021 (UTC).
- thanks for the clarification! My intentions of the content was to introduce more information as the other WP pages don't have the information i've added. It's noted that i should be editing the other pages instead of this one. I will also continue to work on the cultural aspects of ni-van right now, so please bear with me with all the edits i am currently working on.Jhuang1414 (talk) 11:16, 31 May 2021 (UTC)Jhuang1414
- Alright. Do consider working on the other articles (Culture, Cuisine, Music…); I think there is now way too much non-relevant info on the Ni-Vanuatu page. As for the inaccuracies, there were many (e.g. Captain Cook sending missionaries; Bislama having to do with French colonisers, etc.) and also many stylistic flaws I'm afraid, that rendered some sentences difficult to read, or even just wrong. (cf. the corrections I've added; if I had time I would add more). Good luck with your assignment, -- Womtelo (talk) 11:55, 31 May 2021 (UTC).
