Making changes without thyinking of what what is saying
[edit]The Ngiyampaa also known as the Ngemba,[1][a] but who prefer to call themselves Ngiyampaa Wangaaypuwan,[2] are an indigenous Australian people of the state of New South Wales. They are likely a clan of the larger Ngiyampaa nation along with the Wangaaypuwan and Weilwan
This means that the name (a) Ngiyampaa/Ngemba refers to (b) Wangaaypuwan, the sets a and b overlapping, and yet the latter is a clan of the Ngiyampaa, so set (a) has a subset identical with it, but at the same time not identical with it, since the Weilwan are also contained in it.
This is, conceptually, totally tautological when not utterly bungled.
- The set Ngiyampaa is being confused with a subset Wangaaypuwan.
What the muddler intended to say is that the ethnonym Ngiyampaa, alternatively Ngemba, refers to an aggregation of three groups, the Ngiyampaa, the Ngiyampaa Wangaaypuwan, and the Weilwan, each of which are clans of the larger Ngiyampaa nation. If that is what one wants to say, one needs a source that makes this distinction.
Please do not tamper or rewrite anything here before thoroughly studying the literature (which happens to be confused itself at times) and then ensuring that the subsequent edits don't create confusion, conceptual or otherwise, on this page.Nishidani (talk) 11:45, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
Barred?
[edit]The article says that Ngiyampaa people were barred from accessing Mount Grenfell. The cited source, Beckett et al. 2003 p. 13, says: "the effects of European occupation, beginning in the mid 19th century, were to make the place inaccessible to Aboriginal people" and mentions their removal and dispersal. Describing this as "being barred" doesn't seem to be a proper summary of the source. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 02:55, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
- Perhaps "...unable to access [it] from the mid-19th century until the 1970s, after European settlers had occupied the land and removed Aboriginal people to other locations" (link to Aboriginal reserves, if the source is specific), or something like that? - I think your proposed text is a better reflection of the source. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 06:33, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
