Tunnels

[edit]

None of the sources quoted have referenced their claim of "three small tunnels". This includes the NZ Railway and Tramway Atlas which appears to be the source of the claim in "Exploring NZ's Ghost Railways".

This article quotes another book which said excavations were started for one tunnel.

We would need to see an authoritative source like AJHR to back up the tunnel claim. This seems to be a reasonably prime example of numerous works quoting each other all repeating the same claims which has almost become legend but could just as easily be myth.

I have a contact who went to Ngatapa, he furnished photos of the earthworks there and he could not find any trace of any tunnels, just sites where a tunnel could have been started. I published a post in my blog based on the material he gave me, the post is listed as a reference source for the article. I think it is reasonable to conclude that there are no tunnels on the site today. PatrickDunfordNZ (talk) 23:01, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
