Regarding a list

[edit]

Hi @Milowent.

I have created a list "Newspaper endorsements in the 1992 United States presidential election". As you have created and contributed to lists of same kind, can you suggest me any changes in the list, or any source where I can get more information. I definitely have plans of expanding the lead section and adding sections like "Background", "Analysis and effects". Appreciate any feedback.

  • Hello @Kavyansh.Singh! Copying this over to the talk page in case anyone else interested comes by. This is good work! I started Newspaper endorsements in the 1996 United States presidential election when I found some comprehensive list article from that time period. I created it just around the time of the 2016 election, when there was a lot of discussion about how so few newspapers were endorsing the reality TV star Donald Trump. I then created 1900 and 1904 since we already had a very ambitious navigation box for every election back to 1900. I don't know of a comprehensive source for this type of information, unfortunately. Presumably some newspaper has run articles with rundowns of the major paper endorsements in most modern U.S. presidential elections. It seems worthwhile to compile what we can. Then some scholars will no doubt use our raw compilations to provide analysis, which we can use to expand the articles.--Milowenthasspoken 14:36, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Milowent, thanks for your comments. I created this list as I found few sources (Editor & Publisher; Newspaper presidential endorsements) which had many newspapers and their endorsements listed. It is a nice idea to compile from reliable sources, but there must be a limit/criteria set on which newspapers to be included in the list, else it would be an extremely long (almost never ending) list. I am strongly considering to add new sections like "Background", "Analysis and effects", etc with graphs, but just wanted to complete the list before creating sections.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Kavyansh.Singh, good point re criteria for inclusion. But as long as we can sort by circulation numbers, I think it doesn't hurt anything to have long lists. The 2016 article split off the daily newspaper list into Daily newspaper endorsements in the 2016 United States presidential election, for example.--Milowenthasspoken 13:21, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
