Location of article
[edit]Excellent start to this article. Shouldn't it be at Newlywed, though, per WP:PLURAL? Even though newlyweds essentially necessarily come in pairs, they can also be discussed singly, as are Glove, Antler, etc. Indeed, they often are in the literature:
- "Emerging research indicates that newlyweds identify private disclosures from their in-laws as signals of the degree to which the newlywed is considered to be a member of the family." Relating Difficulty.
- see generally this Google Books "newlywed is".
That of course has no bearing on whether Newlyweds should redirect to Newlywed. Thoughts? Dohn joe (talk) 04:22, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
I feel comfortable in moving this content to article space. I'm moving it to Newlywed for now. Feel free to discuss the title over there. Dohn joe (talk) 20:19, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- I would actually prefer to have this titled Newlyweds, since by definition they come in pairs. I do note, however, that we have Spouse in the singular, so I can understand this being titled at the singular. bd2412 T 20:57, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
less than four years
[edit]The current lede reads:
- "Newlyweds are people who have recently entered into a marriage. The time frame during which a married couple is considered newlywed varies, but for social science research purposes it may be considered as to four years into the marriage."
I'd say that in casual usage in the US 1960-2015, the term usually refers to a more limited early period after marriage, rather less than four years, usually less than a year, typically only the first few months or even first few weeks -- or days...
This matter is going to be difficult to resolve/source. Most definitions turn on the word RECENT, which is very vague and subjective, depending on context, etc.-73.61.15.11 (talk) 20:31, 23 January 2018 (UTC)
- That is the problem in a nutshell. In order to put a different number to the time period, we would needs a reliable source. bd2412 T 20:48, 23 January 2018 (UTC)
