Picture
[edit]What is peoples opinion about either replacing or removing the current picture with this article which seems to have nothing to do with the village? Bjmullan (talk) 21:16, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
- i think the picture should stay up it is a lamppost in the village. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.9.130.212 (talk) 00:22, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
- And which particluar lamp post is that and what relevance does it have to Newbuildings? This picture does nothing to help the article on Newbuildings and I have removed it again. Bjmullan (talk) 00:27, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
- because this picture was taken in newbuildings and they are the flags of this country. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.9.130.212 (talk) 00:38, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
I don't mind either way. But, to stop this edit-warring, I suggest everyone avoid editing the article again until we reach an agreement here. ~Asarlaí 00:44, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
This picture does nothing to enhance this article. It is a picture of a lamp post with three flags which could have been taken anywhere and use in any article about Northern Ireland. Perhap if 92.9.130.212 lives near Newbuildings they could consider taking a more relevant picture and uploading for use here. Bjmullan (talk) 00:48, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
And how do we reach agreement here? 92.9.130.212 continues to leave unsigned comments and has vandalised this article over 10 times in the past. Bjmullan (talk) 00:54, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
will let bjmullam a think about it, but this is what the lamp post's look like in the marching season.and none off the flag's there has any thing to do with Paramilitary's.just like bobby sands has a place on the falls road if you have a look, its called history.!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.9.130.212 (talk) 01:05, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
The question remains unanswered. Does the image enhance this article? I believe it does not. Perhaps it would be better placed either at Lamp post or Parades in Northern Ireland. Again the comments above are unsigned and incomprehensible. Bjmullan (talk) 08:57, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
- Having looked at the guidelines for the use of images within articles I believe that this image does not comply. WP:Images - Image choice and placement. I quote: or where the subject in the image is too small, hidden in clutter, ambiguous or otherwise not obvious, should not be used. Bjmullan (talk) 10:18, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Response to third opinion request ( Disagreement over suitablilty of image. ): |
I am responding to a third opinion request for this page. I have made no previous edits on Newbuildings and have no known association with the editors involved in this discussion. The third opinion process is informal and I have no special powers or authority apart from being a fresh pair of eyes. |
There is an obvious edit war taking place on this article. 92.9.130.212 has committed vandalism in the past which violates WP:NEU, WP:V, and WP:RS which makes it difficult for other users to assume good faith regarding their present edit war. That being said 92.9.130.212 has had a history of not maintaining editing and helping the page maintain a NPOV, which may be the reason for inserting the image in question. As for the appropriateness of the image in question. It does not belong in the infobox, as it isn't representative of the community as a whole. It does not belong in the demographic section, as it was during its last incarnation, as it is also not representative of the whole community. The only section it would be appropriate in would be in the controversy section, something that is frowned upon as they are similar to criticism sections; the section should be renamed to something more descriptive of the topic. However, if only the imagine in question is used, it would constitute violation of WP:NEU due to WP:UNDUE. If this third opinion isn't helpful I suggest you take the present issue to WP:POVN.—RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 12:03, 18 December 2009 (UTC) |
- Thank you for your response. I have not replied myself until now as I was waiting to see if others had a POV. Based on your last sentence and also my own belief that the image does not conform to WP:Image, I intend to remove it from the article. However, to allow others a POV I will not do so for a few days.Bjmullan (talk) 10:01, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
- After what I consider following correct WP procedures and given all parties sufficent time to respond I have removed the image from the article and will consider it's addition again to be vandalism.Bjmullan (talk) 17:55, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry for the late reply. After looking at the guidelines I'd have to agree that the picture has no place in this article. Dozens of towns and villages are "decorated with unionist flags" during the summer, and we've no proof that this picture was taken in Newbuildings. I think the Ulster loyalism article is the best place for it, not here. ~Asarlaí 18:53, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

Removal of Controversy section
[edit]Was thinking that this section doesn't really bring anything to this article and could be consider a POV even though it is referenced. I think that it should be removed.Bjmullan (talk) 22:16, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
Cetrainly the Irish News was only a POV. NB also no GAA grounds in the Village so I removed this comment. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Reecie22 (talk • contribs) 22:28, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
