Extinction history

[edit]

In A history of New Zealand birds[1] Buller describes the bird as most likley being extinct at the time of publishing (1888) and provides some evidence for how the koreke came to be extinct. Buller describes how brought with them an old love of sport and hunted the koreke to extinction, giving the example of Sir D. Monro and Major Richmond in 1848 shoot as many as forty-three of the birds, and the claim that shooting 20 quail in a day was not looked upon as extraordinary sport for the day.

Perhaps this information could be implemented in the History section of the article. Wirikinihana (talk) 09:08, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

>> Some comment on why the birds went extinct seems like a good idea.
