Lockport rerouting

[edit]

Google Maps already shows the alignment using NY 270 south to NY 31 then east to the Lockport Bypass but have not found any official NYSDOT notice about the new alignment. The NYSDOT traffic data report still appears to use the old alignment. The current route description uses the old alignment but should probably be changed. --Polaron | Talk 17:24, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I've noticed that as well (regarding the lack of DOT recognition of the new alignment). The only item I've found that vaguely hints at the realignment is the 2007 NYSDOT log, where the northern terminus of NY 270 is listed as NY 31 (it was NY 93 in the 2004 edition). Of course, the northern terminus of 270 should really be shown as 31 and 93, but at least it appears to be in the correct location. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 17:32, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Other history

[edit]

NY 93 was involved in the 1990 and 1998 maintenance swaps between the state and Niagara County. The 1990 swap transferred the piece of NY 93 between the Gregory Bypass and NY 78 from the county to the state. The 1998 swap transferred the section of NY 93 between NY 78 and Akron Road from the county to the state. According to the 1998 swap text (WP:NYSR/MS#1998), Akron Road - which is still listed as a reference route in the 2007 log - is now a county road. The question that begs to be answered is when was NY 93 rerouted to bypass Lockport to the south (and thus when was the Gregory Bypass built)? It was definitely between 1985 and 1995, but I don't have access to anything in between that time frame. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 18:00, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like it was mid-1991 when it was formally opened [1]. The environmental impact statement was published in 1988 [2]. --Polaron | Talk 19:47, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There appears to be a turnpike chartered in 1826 connecting Youngstown and Lockport. I haven't found anything except for a reference to the incorporation but will keep looking. --Polaron | Talk 20:28, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Akron

[edit]

Its been a long while since I've actually driven through Akron as I usually take the Clarence Ctr Rd/Hake Rd bypass when I'm on 93 in that area, but if I'm not mistaken doesn't 93 get split onto opposite one-way streets somewhere in the village? Neither Google Maps or Bing Maps show one-way sections, but they both put 93 on different roads in the village - Google puts it on John St/Mechanic St [3], whereas Bing puts it on Main St/Buffalo St [4], kinda supporting this. →ClarkCTTalk @ 13:27, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

According to Google Street View, both directions of the route follow Main and Buffalo streets. – TMF (talk) 13:55, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
