newuniversal
[edit]Right then... we now have sample pages and blurb up on the www.marvelcomics.com site, plus at least one more in-depth Ellis interview elsewhere. Time to start integrating all of that info? (I'll check and add some later) Having said that, if newuniversal takes off, it's probably going to warrant a page of its own at some point. --Mrph 19:29, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
Cypher? Do we have a clear statement that the series will contain the character? Ellis has been quoted as saying that X-Men readers will know what a Cypher is... but that's not quite the same thing, is it? --Mrph 22:08, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
...er, and if it's true that "(Portions of the below text is copyright Warren Ellis, ComicBookResources.com, and Newsarama.com)" should it really be here? --Mrph 22:58, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
Star Brand cameos
[edit]There's no need for these to be here and on the Star Brand page. Of the two, I think Star Brand is the better place for them. Moving 'em accordingly. Any objections? --Mrph 16:42, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
D.P.7 cameo
[edit]More of a reference than a cameo, but I think the same logic applies. Moving it to the DP7 page. --Mrph 17:29, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
Alternate Versions
[edit]not quite sure this should be included...unless the intention is to list ALL of the alternate versions under one heading. even then, it further separates "newuniversal" from the rest of the listings. if anything - "newuniversal" should either have its own listing OR should be under the heading for the 20th Anniversary of the New U; especially since this is what Marvel and its creators intended.
Many of your changes thus far have either created redundancy or sometimes confusion. it is important to keep everything clear and concise. i agree with your assertion that space is an issue...hence some of the linkage for what was quoted material has been removed. once certain changes were made on your end, the Gruenwald perspective section didn't seem to fit anymore, so it was moved to the external links section. I welcome your comments and additions, but do try and keep everything "lean and mean"; some changes seem to be alterations for alterations sake - as opposed to constructive additions to the text...
personally, i would love to list all the promotional interviews that Marvel did to promote the New U, but don't because that would be excessive, and would turn the article into a "raging monster".
may need your help, though, on the picture. i erroneously deleted it (maybe?) while trying to figure out how to upload the newuniversal image to the article. would you be able to re-insert it or figure out how to help me relist it?
i would certainly much rather work with you so that we are not butting heads, especially since we both seem to have ideas on where this article should go...i would love it if in the future we could discuss it through wiki's "talk" before changes get made (maybe allow a day or 2 for discussion before anything gets added or deleted). i can definitely see that you are just as passionate as i am about the saga. my hope is that this page will serve as an excellent starting point for the uninitiated, and i would certainly welcome your help. best, nthman
- Reply in several parts, I'm afraid - sorry. Looks like the picture's still ok, from what I can see. I think my worry with newuniversal is that we're going to end up in a similar situation to the Supreme Power / Squadron Supreme pages - two (or more, if the Exiles New Universe reappears...) very different versions of the same shared universe, trying to share the same articles and not entirely succeeding. I'd certainly be in favour of a new page for newuniversal if it's a success (and I hope it will be), although the Wikipedia guidelines suggest that the characters themselves should share an article. Until we've actually got a few newuniversal issues out, though, I don't think it can justify a page... --Mrph 21:55, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
- Alternate versions (or Other versions seems to be the standard heading for any such variants - if Marvel's Ultimate universe gets a subheading under that for most characters, I'm assuming newuniversal should be handled the same way, while it's here? (and even if it does move, we'll want a paragraph or two to stay here with a link?). I think the Exiles version might belong under there, too - the question is how we arrange things and whether the publication history and 'real world' side gets intermixed with the fictional in-universe history, or whether we try to keep them separate. Opinions? --Mrph 21:59, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
Merge proposal - White Event into New Universe
[edit]As suggested by Redeagle688
Survey
[edit]- (weak) No Merge --Mrph 23:04, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
- No Merge Any time before newuniversal comes out is too soon for this conversation. Stephen Day 22:10, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- No Merge i second the above motions...
Discussion
[edit]- I can see the argument for merging this, but with Newuniversal less than two months away, it seems there's going to be another White Event, which might make this a little more justifiable. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, of course, but it might be worth having this discussion after Newuniversal is published, not now? --Mrph 23:04, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
- Will Newuniversal have its own article or be merged with this one? It is a separate franchise, after all, much like Marvel and Ultimate Marvel. If one article has to cover two New U's and two White Events, it could get cluttered, not to mention cofusing to new readers. I'd leave it as is for now. -- Noclevername 20:54, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
Peer review
[edit]As noted above, a peer review was requested - and we're now starting to accumulate some comments on the peer review page for this article. So far, I'd tend to agree with everything that's been said. Any comments? If we're happy that this is the way forward, I'll start editing the article with this in mind... --Mrph 23:13, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- I'm assuming the lack of comment means there's no major disagreement with the results of the review - so I'll start tweaking... --Mrph 18:08, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
Title summaries
[edit]A quick google finds the same summary text on http://www.shooterswork.com - is that because one's copied the other, or because they're both copying promotional text for the original series? If we can't be sure / can't cite a source, we might need to delete this due to copyright concerns.--Mrph 18:46, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- Most of the summaries seem to have been extracted from Marvel Age Annual #2, which was Marvel's first release of information to fans about the New Universe. I think they should be rewritten to avoid copyright violations and to make them sound less like marketing hype. --Lkseitz 22:36, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
Secret Wars II spawning the New Universe
[edit]There was talk that the original concept behind the intruduction of the New Universe was spawned by the entity known as The Beyonder creating his own universe following the events of Secret Wars II. Is there anything that can back this speculation and if so can it be included in the page? The concept is mentioned within the linked page but provides no references. --RedKnight 23:32, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Parodies
[edit]I just finished reading Amazing Spider-Man 559 and do not see the parody. I did read a digital version, is it possible the parody was only in the print version?
- Highly unlikely that any content other than ads would have been confined to a print version. I didn't see the parody in that one, either, so I'm removing it from the list.--NukeofEarl (talk) 21:44, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

Contradictory
[edit]The article includes both the statement that the four New U titles which survived the first round of cancellations were themselves on the verge of cancellation and the statement that they were solidly profitable. Both cannot be true. SlyGuyFox (talk) 21:21, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
