Find sources for these statements or they'll be deleted
[edit]As New Orleans has one of the highest poverty rates in America, thousands of citizens rely on NORTA, requiring one of the largest fleets of buses in the nation. It also had the reputation for being one of the cleanest and safest systems among cities known for their high crime rates.
These statements above cannot be sourced, I don't think. Come up with citations or they'll be deleted. Eclectek C T 23:18, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
Proposed merge
[edit]I oppose the suggested merge of Streetcars in New Orleans into New Orleans Regional Transit Authority proposed by 72.204.147.63 (talk · contribs). Reasons: Topics are related but not identical. Streetcars in New Orleans have a long history dating back some 150 years before the creation of the NO RTA. Both articles have substantial content, and both have potential for substantial expansion. -- Infrogmation (talk) 15:19, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
- I agree with Infrogmation. New Orleans Public Service and its predecessors operated the New Orleans streetcars for a long time before NO RTA was created, and it does not seem to make sense to include their period of operation under the RTA article. HGFriedman (talk) 18:38, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
- The current incarnation of the streetcar system and the future lines are is under RTA. Since it is an important part of the RTA system, why not have detailed information about the current and 3 proposed lines under the RTA page with a link to a "History of streetcars in New Orleans" page in that section. The "history" page can go into detail about the various original lines and NOPSI, while the RTA page needs information on the current system. (72.204.147.63 (talk) 06:28, 11 November 2009 (UTC))
- It seems that even you are admitting that a seperate article for streetcars, at least for the history, is appropriate. I wouldn't object to adding more about the current streetcar lines to the RTA article, even if it might in part be redundant, but don't see any reason to eleminate the streetcar article and redirect it here. -- Infrogmation (talk) 12:16, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
- I've removed the merge template. Infrogmation (talk) 15:10, 18 December 2009 (UTC)
NO RTA Logo
[edit]Under Veolia management, New Orelans RTA has adopted a modified logo, which is gradually being painted onto the streetcars and buses. Our RTA article displays the older logo. I think we ought to display the new one, or perhaps both. I don't know how we do that without treading on copyrights. What's the protocol? (The new logo can be seen on RTA's website.) Proven copyright violation in History and RTA Governance sections; undeclared COI by user "New Orleans RTA"
[edit]Timeline:
1. July 16, 2014 - non-profit group, Ride New Orleans, issues first annual report, critical of RTA spending priorities and vast service reductions post-Katrina:
- Rainey, Richard (July 16, 2014). "Costs are high, fares low for New Orleans public transit, report says". The Times-Picayune. Retrieved August 17, 2015.
- Rainey, Richard (July 16, 2014). "Fewer bus routes, longer wait times hamper New Orleans' growth, report says". The Times-Picayune. Retrieved August 17, 2015.
2. August 21, 2014 - newly-registered Wikipedia editor (with no conflict of interest disclaimer), "New Orleans RTA", in sole "contributions" to Wikipedia, simply copies and pastes several paragraphs of unattributed, presumably copyright PR material, from NORTA.com's "About the RTA" page (as archived August 3, 2014.
3. August 17, 2015 - non-profit group, Ride New Orleans, issues second annual report, critical of RTA:
- Rainey, Richard (August 17, 2015). "Ride New Orleans sees public transit as shadow of its pre-Katrina self". The Times-Picayune. Retrieved August 17, 2015.
4. Today - I begin to remedy the situation and post this here for archival purposes. Admin and editor help welcomed, esp. in blocking user and getting reliable third-party sources for brand new History and RTA Governance sections, rather than blandly paraphrasing and citing NORTA PR pages. I'll follow guidelines on WP:CV101 -- Paulscrawl (talk) 22:21, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
