What should I address? CoolMarc 06:24, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry Happypillsjr I have asked for a second opinion because I don't believe you are cut out to review this. Your comments here are bizarre and you cannot articulate yourself properly. CoolMarc 15:44, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Coolmarc: If that's the way you think, it's fine. I thought I'm doing a good job in this review with music.-- Happypillsjr 16:01, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Second opinion

[edit]

What is the second opinion about? I thought I could help. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 16:38, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@MarioSoulTruthFan: Thank you for your comment! I asked for a second opinion as per above I am not confident that the reviewer is cut out to give this a decent review. If you have a moment to provide a review - that would be of great help to me! CoolMarc 16:57, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Do you mean a full review? If that's the case I can't help right now. I can give my opinion on subjects or doubts both o you might have, I can't conduct a full review at this point. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 17:02, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@MarioSoulTruthFan: As you can see above the reviewer has not given any substantial feedback after a week of bizarre comments and edits. A full review would be beneficial, but the article isn't particularly a long one anyway. CoolMarc 17:08, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ok so here goes my two cents on this review. It is not poorly done, it has some valuable comments on it. But you don't need a chart section if the song never charted (pointless). You can add the studios on the personnel section if you want. Be awre of the references because you have stuff like Tidal and Google Play Music as work and they are not. The audio should be on the composition section. On the Music video section, on the Production and release, the last paragrapgh can be merged with the second. I would like to know what a scorebox is doing here? This is just on a first glance. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 17:37, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I've changed Google Play and Tidal to publisher as requested and merged the paragraph in the music video section. The reviewer added the scorebox saying I should have one in this article... CoolMarc 18:33, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No need, songs usually don't have them, that's for albums. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 14:34, 11 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Comments from Kingsif

[edit]

I'll be happy to take over this review since the nominator has requested. Kingsif (talk) 21:08, 12 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sources look fine
  • Good use of media in the article, perhaps the music video screenshot should be moved down to th synopsis part where it's specifically discussed more?
Moved. CoolMarc 09:33, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Infobox satis
  • In the background part, At the time, Lipa went into many failed writing sessions trying to recreate her track "Hotter than Hell" and it was only after she moved on from it that she wrote "New Love".[2] She was unsure of her sound and message as a singer, and thus wrote about this struggle and finding her place in a music industry that "often seems to neither want nor need you." could be rewritten for a more encyclopedic tone.
Rewritten. Is it better now? CoolMarc 09:49, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Release and critical reception section is good
  • The sentence Nodland suggested to direct the clip during a dinner with Lipa, after the singer expressed disappointment for a postponed music video shoot for a different track needs rewriting
Rewritten. Please check. CoolMarc 10:01, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Linked. CoolMarc 09:33, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Presumably the quotation should read 'a day in the life'? ("a life in the day of Dua Lipa")
The quote in the source says "like a life in the day of Dua Lipa" should I use Template:Sic and ammend? CoolMarc 09:33, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Coolmarc: Hmm, we can't judge intention because really she did mean a life in the day. Perhaps add a hidden note that the source does indeed say that, and unless it's shown to be a misprint it shouldn't be corrected? Kingsif (talk) 16:41, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Kingsif: Hidden note added. CoolMarc 16:47, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • The sentences While driving with Nodland on Melrose Avenue, Lipa spotted a vacant inflatable slide and filmed a quick scene of her sliding down it before being noticed and charged to use it. The men in white suits were at Hollywood Hills taking pictures and were asked by Lipa on the spot to dance for the video could be somehow connected for better flow
I've connected the two sentences. Is it OK now? CoolMarc 10:11, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Kingsif: thank you for this. I have responded to everything above. CoolMarc 10:11, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Coolmarc: Looks good. Kingsif (talk) 17:23, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Comments from Angryjoe1111

[edit]
  • Lead "Photographer Nicole Nodland directed the music video which is a montage of filtered footage of Lipa in Los Angeles doing activities she enjoys." Could be reworded more concisely. Maybe The music video was directed by photographer Nicole Nodland, which depicts Lipa performing several activities in Los Angeles as a filtered montage.Angryjoe1111 (talk) 18:02, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, your suggested sentence is implying that Nodland is a depiction of Lipa... I think the sentence is fine as it is. CoolMarc 12:35, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Background and composition it was only after this transpired that she wrote "New Love". This can either be written as a separate sentence or concise with the preceding sentence. — Angryjoe1111 (talk) 18:02, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure what you mean here. Lipa was trying to write a song in the style of "Hotter than Hell" and she said it was only after she moved on from trying to recreate "Hotter than Hell" that she wrote "New Love". CoolMarc 12:35, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Done. CoolMarc 12:35, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Done. CoolMarc 12:35, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Done. CoolMarc 12:35, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Release and critical reception Recalling her decision to release the single, Lipa said: "When I showed 'New Love' to people, they'd say, 'Oh, I didn't expect that'. I loved that reaction, so I went with it." This could be paraphrased. — Angryjoe1111 (talk) 18:02, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have a suggestion for how this could be paraphrased, it has very specific emphasis that I felt would be better off not paraphrased. CoolMarc 12:35, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think they can be accurately paraphrased. I thought they were nice quotes actually... Do you have a suggestion on how they could be paraphrased? CoolMarc 12:53, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It was filmed at several locations across LA, but Hollywood Hills and Melrose Avenue were the locations that got mentioned in the sources. I trimmed the sentence since the locations are mentioned later in the section anyway. CoolMarc 12:53, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Music video After Lipa expressed disappointment for a different track's postponed music video shoot, Nodland suggested to direct the clip for "New Love" during a dinner with the singer. Do you know the track name of the postponed shoot? "During a dinner with the singer" doesn't sound too encyclopedic. Is there another way to rephrase this? — Angryjoe1111 (talk) 18:02, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
We don't know the other track's name. I am having trouble with this bit, I rewrote as per previous suggestion of Kingsif, I honestly don't know how to write it better now. What we are trying to say is that Nodland spontaneously offered to direct the music video during a dinner with Lipa where she expressed disappointment about the postponed music video. CoolMarc 12:53, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Rewritten. CoolMarc 12:53, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It's more of a description than a comparison. CoolMarc 12:53, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I rewrote it as Lipa gave her first live performance of "New Love" which sounds better to me. CoolMarc 12:55, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately nothing, I did a lot of research but nothing more than what is already included. CoolMarc 12:53, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Done. CoolMarc 12:53, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
WP:CITEFOOT suggests it should be at the end. it is usually sufficient to add the citation to the end of the clause, sentence, or paragraph, so long as it's clear which source supports which part of the text. CoolMarc 13:03, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I hope that all these comments would help in the GA review. Good luck! — Angryjoe1111 (talk) 18:02, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your comments! :-) I have responded above. CoolMarc 13:03, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
