In the Dutch music world we find a "Nieuw Hongaars Strijkkwartet", which translates "New Hungarian Strinquartet". It consisted most probably of some members of what later was the "Hungarian Quartet".
In Amsterdam we find performing The New Hungarian String Quartet: Debut season 1937/38 (Haydn-Bartok-Schubert on 27Nov1937) Further concerts seasons 1939/40, 1940/41, 1941/42
The famous Hungarian Quartet, at the time with Székely-Moszkowsky-Koromzay-Palotai, was "trapped" in Holland during the war years. They were studying Beethoven and performing on private events. After the war they came out with their famous Beethoven Cycle, first in Amsterdam.
What has to be clarified is (a) who were the members of the New Hungarian String Quartet, as performing in Amsterdam from 1937 till 1942? (b) is the members' composition and their public performing in those years in any way related with the Nazi influence and occupation of the Netherlands?
Source: (1) "40 Jaar Concertgebouw Kamermuziek" ("40 Years Concertgebouw Chambermusic"), Memorial 1920-1960, printed at Jacob van Campen, Amsterdam. This booklet documents all individual chamber music concerts at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, but does not mention members' names of the ensembles. (2) private diaries describing wartime home concerts in Haarlem, Netherlands, were Székely-Moszkowsky-Koromzay-Palotai frequently performed in closed circles.

- I believe the Hungarian String Quartet was first called the "New" one, because there had been a previous one. Devadaru (talk) 19:10, 14 February 2023 (UTC)

Who founded?
[edit]The article states that Andor Toth founded the quartet. However, there is some evidence (and the name of the quartet lends support to this) that it was Koromzay who organized the new quartet: the following quote:
Finally the group was disbanded by mutual agreement in 1970. The irrepressible Koromzay would, however, organize a New Hungarian Quartet between 1976 and 1984.
