Guest section
[edit]I'm slightly concerned that this section may end up becoming overly long as the show goes on. It's doing well enough for renewal at present and if its this long by the mid point of the first season, I think it may become ridiculous during the second. Do we really need every single person credited? Esuka (talk) 20:56, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
- I honestly think the section should only show notable/special guest stars instead of every single guest stars because as you said the regular guest stars list is getting long. Remove the whole guest section and just add notable and special guest stars if there are some as I know the list would be shorter. — YoungForever(talk) 21:53, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
- I just added this to my watchlist, and thought the same thing. There are a small number of notable notable guest stars at best, and even then, they're a bit iffy. We customarily have not added guest stars because notability is so subjective, but they're sure creeping in recently. I'd say, let's junk the whole list. ----Dr.Margi ✉ 21:58, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
- Agreed, I'm concerned that we could be looking at 40-50 guest stars per season at the rate they're being added. Being a medical drama most of these guest characters likely won't ever appear again. Esuka (talk) 22:26, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
- I added them while editing yesterday/today and I'm going to WP:BEBOLD and remove them if the local consensus has been to remove the section. Caught up on the series and went through the credits on all of the episodes after the third one. Perhaps, if the series runs so long as to warrant articles covering its individual seasons, then guest cast and characters can be listed on each of those articles as has been customary in the past. – BoogerD (talk) 23:32, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

- Generally, outside of the main cast, only those who are recurring and notable should be listed. For notable, those would typically be those who receive a special guest star credit. (And, of course, if a special guest star ends up appearing for five or more episodes, then they would be considered recurring.) Other notable ones would be main cast from another series—past or present—on the same network guest starring in an episode. Amaury (talk | contribs) 00:23, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

- In general, I think 'Guest cast' sections are a very bad idea, for all of the reasons already outlined... Basically, how do you determine what's a "notable guest star", without it being WP:OR?! To my mind, there's really only 3 ways: 1) they're 'recurring' cast (in which case they go in the 'recurring' cast section anyway...), 2) they're credited as "Special guest stars" (but many shows actually never credit anyone this way), or 3) the guest appearance itself generated significant independent reliable source coverage. In general, very few "guest" stints meet either criteria #2 or criteria #3. So, as a result, I think 'Guest' sections are a bad idea... However, the other way they are mishandled is – if a 'Guest' section is done, it should always list the episode(s) the guest actor appeared in (to meet WP:V), either by episode title, or by something like "episode #2.12". --IJBall (contribs • talk) 19:22, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
- Special guest star is a terrible metric for notability because it has no standard meaning. It's sometimes negotiated, sometimes used as an honorific and might even be used to draw attention to what's little more than a cameo. That said, it's usually afforded to better known or distinguished guests, which I supposed does help a little. But is that notability in and of itself? And as you say, it may miss important cast. The same issue has arisen at Murphy Brown, which features a lot of notable "as themselves" cameos. ----Dr.Margi ✉ 20:01, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
- Special crediting is as good a metric as any. It's coming directly from WP:PRIMARY. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 23:38, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

Channel 9 Receiving rights to distribute New Amsterdam
[edit]Channel 9 (Australia) has recently received rights to distribute the show to Australia at the typical time of 9:00PM on the 30th of January 2019.
- Where is the reliable source? It can't be added in without a reliable source. — YoungForever(talk) 05:07, 30 January 2019 (UTC)
Name change of hospital in series
[edit]Does anyone know why the name of the hospital was changed from Bellevue to New Amsterdam? 47.148.7.141 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 21:53, 14 February 2020 (UTC)
- First of all, Wikipedia is not a forum for discussing subjects not directly pertinent to article topics. So the reason for a name change of a hospital on a TV series would fall under the parameters of things that are not appropriate to discuss here. With that said, anyone with such questions can easily find the answer thereunto elsewhere online by entering the correct search terms. Happy hunting. --~~
New Amsterdam Time Slot Change
[edit]Hello again, everyone! Following last Tuesday's season 4 finale of This Is Us, New Amsterdam shifted timeslots from 10:00 PM EST to 9:00 PM EST on Tuesday March 31. Should that be noted in some way on this page? If so, how? Thanks. --Jgstokes (talk) 08:26, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
- Noted in the ratings section. (It ultimately will apply only to the final episode of the season, despite happening earlier for repeats.) - Favre1fan93 (talk) 17:36, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

Splitting article to “list of…episodes?”
[edit]Any body else suggest that this article is ready to be split into "list of...episodes?" Brianis19 (talk) 07:48, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Brianis19 I would be ok with that, but also do not think it is necessary. The article IMHO is still manageable with the current structure. Bernhard.rulla (talk) 10:27, 28 December 2022 (UTC)
Names in episode list
[edit]The naming of people in the episode list is not consistent. Sometimes, it's "Max", "Dr. Max Goodwin", "Dr. Goodwin". Should we find a consistent naming? Does it matter? Bernhard.rulla (talk) 12:08, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
- I suggest to close the topic with the result that it's "Dr. Goodwin". Some dots need to be added. Bernhard.rulla (talk) 21:23, 8 January 2023 (UTC)
