Moved
[edit]Let me note that I have moved almost all the content formerly under this title to adult neurogenesis. This article should cover mainly the neurogenesis that occurs during development. Obviously there is a lot that needs to be added. Looie496 (talk) 17:28, 30 November 2015 (UTC)
Issue with number of neurogenic niches/sites
[edit]In this article, the number of neurogenic regions in the adult brain is cited as being three -SVZ, dentate gyrus of the hippocampi, and olfactory bulb. The source provided is Ming, GL; Song, H (May 26, 2011). "Adult neurogenesis in the mammalian brain: significant answers and significant questions.". Neuron. 70 (4): 687–702. doi:10.1016/j.neuron.2011.05.001. PMC 3106107Freely accessible. PMID 21609825. However, the article as well as the adult neurogenesis Wikipedia article lists two regions, the SVZ and the dentate gyrus of the hippocampi. The SVZ is the neurogenic niche for adult-born neurons in the olfactory bulb, which migrate via the rostral migratory stream. I will edit this section accordingly.
