I'll be carrying out this review, and I'll put my comments up in the next day or so. --Malleus Fatuorum 15:35, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cool, thanks. Suicidalhamster (talk) 18:07, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The points raised during the last GA nomination appear to have been dealt with satisfactorily, but inevitably I have a few additional ones to make. Nothing major though.

  • "This convention is not universally followed however, with Bill Birkett preferring to differentiate between the two fells." Need to explain who Bill Birkett is. For instance "... with climber Bill Birkett preferring ...".
  • Described him as an author, he is mainly famous for writing the book referenced.
  • "Lead was once mined on its eastern slopes, resulting in levels and a number of open mines." Does this mean open cast mines? I think that "levels" needs just a word of explanation as well.
  • "The majority of walkers on this route have nothing but Helvellyn in their sights." I'm not happy with that bald statement. How can we tell what's in their sights? If this was an attributed direct quotation it might be acceptable.
  • Removed. The sentiment that Helvellyn tends to draw the crowds is elaborated on in the section Ascents and tourism. Added as it leads to Helvellyn. to the previous sentence.
  • "The summit area is triangular in plan as befits a fell with three ridges." Not sure I fully understand what this is trying to say. Where has it already been explained that the fell has three ridges? Have the ridges been described earlier? Why "befits"?
  • Changed to: The summit area is triangular in plan with ridges running to the north, south and east.
  • "Other than northward, where the bulk of Helvellyn intervenes, the view is impressive with much of the District in sight." Peacock language. It's not for us to say in an encyclopedia article whether the view is "impressive" or not. Presumably as well this should say "Lake District", not just "District"?
  • Is 'extensive' any better? Wainwright uses fairly emotive language at times!
  • "This causes significant erosion, destroying areas montane vegetation." This doesn't read quite right. Is there something missing?
  • Changed to: The large number of footpaths casues significant disturbance to the summit vegetation, which could be greatly reduced by using fewer footpaths.
  • "Natural England, which is responsible for choosing SSSIs, tries to ensure that the management and use of the area is sustainable." Is Natural England only responsible for choosing? If so, how can it ensure the management of the fell? Who does manage it?
  • well natural england choose the sites and then give the land owners guidelines and advice on how they should manage the land. If the landowner doesn't comply I believe natural england has the power to buy the land as a last resort.
  • "Overgrazing by sheep in Grisedale Common caused the vegetation to fall into an unfavourable condition." Reads very awkwardly.
  • Changed to: Overgrazing by sheep in Grisedale Common has damaged the vegetation to the extent that it has needed careful management.
  • Ideally I'd like to see page numbers given for book citations, but that's not strictly necessary to meet the good article criteria.
  • I will try to do this however I don't have all the books with me at the moment. Done for Wainwright (only chapter name as doesn't have numbers throughout)

That's about it. Nothing too serious I don't think, so I'm now putting this article on hold for seven days.

Thanks for all your changes and suggestions, I will get to these asap. Suicidalhamster (talk) 22:23, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Have tried to address them all. Suicidalhamster (talk) 23:52, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks for the great work in addressing my comments, but more importantly in producing this lovely article on Nethermost Pike. Page numbers will matter if you take this forwards to FAC, but as I said they're not mandatory for GAN, so I'm going to list this article as a GA now. Congratulations on a nice piece of work. --Malleus Fatuorum 00:02, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
