Please explain the formula

[edit]

eg why "+ 2) - (0.1 × (ideal body weight in kilograms))". The 0.16 is presumably the nitrogen mass fraction of average protein, but why "+ 2", and why "- (0.1 × (ideal body weight in kilograms)" ? What other formulae have been used (when, why) ? - Rod57 (talk) 12:06, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Do any sources confirm the "+2" and "(0.1 × (ideal body weight in kilograms)" are empirical fudge factors to try to get similar NPU from different people on the same diet ? - Rod57 (talk) 12:14, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Who used NPU and why

[edit]

Is it to assess the persons digestion/metabolism, or the quality of the food/protein ? ... [1] says NPU is a measure of "protein quality" - presumably when the specific protein is the only protein type in the diet. - Rod57 (talk) 12:29, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
