Please define profession of "reader"

Elisa.rolle What is the profession of "reader"? It seems from the context to be somewhat related to an actress or voiceover artist. Is it one who reads to an audience – but what? Don Quixote; newspaper articles; sonnets; political screeds; census reports; Pericles's funeral oration?

The term is too vague to form a clear understanding of the profession in the reader's mind (perhaps the profession is defunct). Would you consider glossing the term in the article, please? Spideog (talk) 00:35, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
