Census Data
[edit]I based my neighborhood map, borders, and naming off of the City of Kalamazoo's website.
For those who may be interested in how I obtained my demographic data, I used the American FactFinder (linked at bottom of article). As the US Census does not align its census tracts exactly to the broders of neighborhoods every time, I sometimes cobbled together my own region made of multiple census tracts, block groups, and blocks. I based most of my detailed border determinations on the precinct maps found at the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety. I was not always able to align the census data perfectly with the neighborhood definitions found on the City of Kalamazoo's maps, but at most a dozen people or so have been shifted each way. The definitions I used for each neighborhood are as follows:
- Arcadia: Tract 15.06 Group 2
- Burke Acres: Tract 14.01 Groups 1 and 2, Group 3 Blocks 3000 to 3011, 3016 to 3017, 3996 to 3999; Tract 14.02 Group 4 Blocks 4007 to 4009, 4011, Group 5 Block 5001.
- Central Business District: Tract 2.01, Blocks 1000 to 1069, 1080 to 1085, 1090 to 1092, and 1999
- Colony Farm: Tract 16.04 Group 2 Blocks 2001 to 2007
- Eastside: Tract 1 Groups 1 and 3, Group 2 Blocks 2000 to 2021, 2995 to 2999
- Edison: Tract 9; Tract 10; Tract 11 Group 1; Tract 18.01 Group 1 Blocks 1000 to 1006 and 1015; Tract 18.03 Group 1 Blocks 1017 and 1995

- Oakland/Winchell: Tract 12, Groups 2 and 3; Tract 16.01
- Oakwood: Tracts 16.03 Group 1; Tract 16.03 Group 2 Blocks 2000 to 2007 and 2009 to 2016
- Parkview Hills: Tract 16.03 Group 2 Block 2008; Tract 16.04 Group 2 Block 2000, 2008 to 2011, and 2997 to 2999

- Stuart: Tract 3 Group 3 Block 3010 to 3013; Tract 5 Group 3
- Vine: Tract 2.01 Blocks 1070 to 1079 and 1086 to 89; Tract 6 Groups 1, and 3 to 5, Tract 6 Group 2 Blocks 2000 to 2013 , Tract 11 Group 3 Blocks 3000 to 3003 and 3007 to 3013
- West Douglas / Fairmont: Tract 5 Groups 1, 2, and 5
- West Main Hill: Tract 5 Group 4
- WMU/KPRH: Tract 15.04
- Westnedge Hill: Tract 6 Group 2 Block 2014; Tract 11 Group 2 Blocks 2002 to 2003 and 2006 to 2014; Tract 12 Group 1; Tract 17.02 Groups 1 and 2
- Westwood: Tract 15.06 Group 1; Tract 29.03 Group 1 Block 1011
I had planned to include the tract definitions within each neighborhood, but thought that it was too cumbersome and most people wouldn't care. I also initially included per capita income for areas, but those data aren't available for individual blocks, and so I couldn't get them for some regions. For consistency, then, I removed them from all neighborhoods.

Another thing, I lvie in Kalamazoo and you guys are messing it up. Edison is the southside! If it was eastside then why is Southside park on PALMER AVE in the EDISON AREA.
Parkview Hills
[edit]Under the Parkview Hills heading, there is this line: "During the first half of 2006, there were 7 reported criminal incidents in the Oakwood neighborhood." Should that line be changed to "...7 reported criminal incidents in the Parkview Hills neighborhood"? Melonjuice 14:29, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
- Indeed you are correct. I was copying the same text and subbing in the right data and names, and must have forgotten to change that one. My eyes began to glaze over at one point. Munion 03:33, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
