Political party affiliation
[edit]Is there any evidence that he was a Democrat before the Republican party was established? The source cited (https://archive.org/details/historyoffarming00butl_0/page/380/mode/2up) does not mention his political affiliation at any time in his life -- and "not Republican" does not equate to "Democrat" (I think he possibly could have been a Whig). @Orlady: Fixed the reference. In the 1840s, Abbott was editor of a newspaper that was founded to support Democratic candidates. I didn't find anything to indicate that he was a Whig. Billmckern (talk) 23:28, 30 July 2023 (UTC)
