2022 Negros Murders Add - Failed to Post or Removed
[edit]Hello WikiDan61,
I added another murder to the list, for January 2022. This murder is absolutely the same as all the others, and could be the same powerful gangs. Why is my posting not yet alive on "Negros Killings"?
CALAYUGAN (talk) 20:15, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
- @CALAYUGAN: You added a lot of material, but provided no sources by which to verify the material. Also, the material you added included a lot of "gossip" and "apparently" and "rumors". Wikipedia does not engage in this kind of unsourced speculation. If you can find reliable sources (actual news reports) that tie this event to the overall string of killings described in this article, please provide them. - WikiDan61, I am the reporter. This man was my nephew. The event stated by me actually took place. The statements by witnesses are real. This statement is, therefore, corroborated and verified by witnesses. The names of the witnesses can be provided, but it puts them at risk. All the statements of gossip and rumors are merely about the details concerning what the witnesses describe. For example, it was reported that one of the Roosters at the Cockfight was owned by a local police officer. This is a fact, and the witness can corroborate that. - @CALAYUGAN: I'm sorry, but unless the information has been published by a reliable source (a local newspaper, perhaps), we cannot just take your word for it. That would be original research and that's not how Wikipedia works. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:31, 2 September 2022 (UTC)
- Further to this, according to the Wikipedia rules for sources, first hand accounts are definitely valid sources. How can I have this item published by you? I can privately provide you the names of the witnesses. This murder by Marvin Macatumbas is documented at the Zamboanguita Police detachment. Post-mortem facts are that the bullets were not analyzed, and remain in Marvin's skull. Witness interviews are documented. Since no killer has been found, I personally will attend Zamboanguita and provide references, but I am not sure what you will accept. Again, this is not fiction. It really happened, but no killer has been found, and thus all evidence is like sequestered by the Police. Let me try to find the murder details. I can also provide the name and Facebook pages of the wife of Marvin Macatumbas (Merifel Macatumbas), who lives as a widow with their 5 children. I will need more details about what you accept. Again, I am the reporter, namely Calayugan Music Man, Robert T. Letts. Marvin Macatumbas was my beloved nephew. This story is real, and all the rumors and gossip about the killings are actually facts. CALAYUGAN (talk) 15:35, 2 September 2022 (UTC)
- @CALAYUGAN: I don't think you've read WP:RS correctly. I refer you specifically to the section on primary sources, where secondary sources (i.e. published articles based on reporters investigating primary sources, fact checking them, and undergoing editorial review) are preferred over all others. What you propose (adding material that you, yourself have discovered and not published elsewhere) falls under the realm of original research and is definitively disallowed at Wikipedia. Also, the material you have presented is not even factual; it is a collection of rumors and suppositions. I really can't state this any more emphatically: this material does not belong on Wikipedia. You are free to ask for a third opinion on the matter, but I can't imagine any other experience Wikipedia editor is going to give you a different answer. - Your points are actually very good and valid. I agree, and now I am motivated to get serious about my sources and the facts. In truth, I am going to the Philippines to investigate this terrible killing, as this man was beloved to me and many others. I will find the corrected and valid sources and I will ask again for your approval and ongoing feedback. Thanks for your advice. I will seek to fulfill your needs. CALAYUGAN (talk) 15:56, 2 September 2022 (UTC)
- Will you accept video evidence in interviews of Witnesses? CALAYUGAN (talk) 15:57, 2 September 2022 (UTC)
- Will you accept video evidence in interviews of Witnesses? CALAYUGAN (talk) 15:58, 2 September 2022 (UTC)
- @CALAYUGAN: No. This information MUST be published in a reliable publication, subject to editorial review and fact checking. If you can't get a newspaper to publish your reporting, you can't get Wikipedia to do it either. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:03, 2 September 2022 (UTC)
- @WikiDan61, per Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources#YouTube, the YouTube videos can be used as references if they are published from a reliable source. Though if you could find some reliable source publishing the content there, you can also find them publishing it on the web — but that is a different thing. Video, in itself, is not a problem; source is.
- And, @CALAYUGAN, interviews are not considered reliable for Wikipedia, read WP:RS for more info. Lightbluerain (Talk💬 Contribs✏️) 17:15, 2 September 2022 (UTC)

@Lightbluerain: Yes, Youtube videos published by established reliable outlets. CALAYUGAN wants to use an interview he, himself conducted and published on Youtube as a reference. That won't fly. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:57, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
