telescope image

[edit]

I have a wonderful old telescope made by Negretti and Zambra, in almost mint condition. I will photograph it and add it to the page when I get a chance. Also, does anyone have an original copy of the book "A Treatise on Meteorological Instruments"? If it is now public domain (if it is 70 years after the authors death?), then maybe some scans of it would be good for this page? --Tomhannen 23:49, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WPJapan

[edit]

Squilibob removed the WPJapan template, providing this edit summary: Not really relevant to Japan from what I can see). But because Negretti and Zambra commissioned the first published photographs of Japan, I beg to differ; the article is certainly relevant to the WikiProject. At the moment, the article is unbalanced, focussing on the firm's optical instrument-making practice, but in time the firm's significance as a photographic studio, including their importance for publishing rare photographic images of Japan before Meiji, will be fleshed out... Negretti and Zambra - Missing products and history

[edit]

Creating these special interest pages is a challenge. Reading this page at present a reader would get the impression that most of what Negretti and Zambra did related to optics. I know there is a great deal more to the story of this company, but I'm afraid I don't have the details to make a reliable contribution. I remember Negretti and Zambra manufactured instruments for process plant. That may have been pressure gauges, but possibly other instruments as well. This would have been in the 1980s. A search with Google found a Facebook page which shows that they manufactured instruments for the aircraft industry as well. https://www.facebook.com/Negretti-Zambra-Aviation-Ltd-661365740617497/ It's easy to guess how the company made the transition from optical instruments to gauges of other kinds. I'm sure that there is a lot of interesting history in a company that lasted over 100 years. OldBoar (talk) 08:09, 22 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
