BLP Sources
[edit]I've been working on finding sources for the article and have managed to find a good deal of them, including but not limited to self publishing sources, like the book authored by Neel and the Twitter handle for his show. But those are used for "claims about author themself" and do not involve claims about third parties (inline with policy: WP:ABOUTSELF). Besides, the article cites a considerable amount of second and third party material and isn't repaint exclusively on first party sources.
With that, I believe the maintenance tag (BLP) can be removed. I'll wait for anyone to chime in for a month or so on this, and remove it if there's no discussion or opposition.
I've previously worked on Al Hussary's article to the same affect, though he isn't a living person. Murtaza.aliakbar (talk) 15:09, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Murtaza.aliakbar: thank you for your improvements to the article. The list of sources looks impressive, but some of them do not check out.
- We do not appear to have a source for Madhav's date of birth, age or birthplace. Our mensxp source [1] says that he was 21 when the article was written on 26 September 2014. This means that we has born sometime in 1992 or 1993. Please find a reliable source for his exact date of birth or I will change his date of birth to "1992 or 1993".
- Four sources are provided for his father, but none of them establishes his father's name.
- The British Library video[2] says this his father is an investment banker, but does not name him.
- The justearthnews source[3] says "My dad is an investment banker and he is from Harvard Business School", but it does not name him.
- The Team SportEX.Asia source[4] gives details of Raghvendra Madhav, but does not mention that he is Neel's father.
- The archive of the Economic Times source[5] does not work, but the live page[6] mentions Raghvendra Madhav without saying that he is Neel's father.
- We don't have a source for his mother's name.
- This sentence is effectively unsourced:
- He is part Kashmiri and Hindkowan from his maternal side and of Bengali and Hindavi heritage from his paternal side. His family shuffled between Malaysia, London, and New Delhi over the years, though, he now lives in Bandra, Mumbai.[9]
- The cited starclinch source says none of this, except that he is now based in Mumbai.
- This sentence is inadequately sourced:
- While in college he undertook seven internships, which were an integral part of his studies. He interned at MTV in London, Aircel, Red FM, Sphere Origins and at a social media agency to get an overall understanding of how a production house works.
- The archived link[10] does not work for me, but the live link to The Hindu does.[11] This confirms that he completed seven internships while a student, but not that they were an integral part of his studies. It mentions MTV, but not Aircel, Red FM or Sphere Origins.
- I have removed the name of Madhav's brother and sister-in-law following the guideline in WP:BLPNAME, as they are not notable people and giving their names does not help a reader's understanding of Neel Madhav. Moreover, the 'Crafts' source[12] does not confirm that Srishti Madhav is Neel's sister-in-law.
- I have only looked in detail at the Early life section because personal information is the most sensitive and the most important to be reliably sourced. However, I encourage you to check that the sources in the rest of the article adequately support the content.
- I think that a sourcing tag is still appropriate, but it could probably be changed from an overall {{BLP sources}} tag to {{BLP sources section}} for the Early life section and {{Citation needed}} tags on some of the infobox fields.
- If adequate reliable sources are not added soon then I plan to remove the unsourced personal information.

- @Verbcatcher:
- Agreed on all counts. Thanks.
- ...a source for Madhav's date of birth, age or birthplace.
- Found two citations (though from Neel's Instagram page) for date and age. None for birth place, yet.
- Re: Raghavendra Madhav: Well, it is common knowledge, by the way of his numerous offline shows, but online citations aren't available. I'm not sure if offline sources count as reliable, though. I'll see if I can dig some source up since the book doesn't mention his father by name, either.
- Re: Mother's name: Got a source for that.
- Re: ethnicity: Hard to source that unless it comes from Neel himself or his parents, so not sure if it should be removed immediately or leave it up with a citation-needed tag. The book (Neel authored) does mention Neel's mother speaks Kumaoni.
- Re: Internships: The book lists them all. Added a ref. Page numbers aren't accessible via books.google, so hard to point to a specific page, but the contents of the book is "searchable".
- Re: dead archived links: I removed the Deccanherald link that failed archive. Will remove the others too. Murtaza.aliakbar (talk) 13:12, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Murtaza.aliakbar: thank you for finding the new references. I have removed all of the information that I have identified as unsourced except for his father's name, partly because you seem confident that this is accurate. I have tagged it with {{citation needed}}.
- I have removed three references where it is unclear that they refer to his parents. I think these repeat information that is in our other refs.
- I think Jason Randall is a mistake for Jason Randal. Can you confirm this?
- I have removed the {{BLP sources}} tag.
- Regards, Verbcatcher (talk) 15:40, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Verbcatcher: Thanks. The edits look apt and accurate to me.
- Yes, that should be Jason Randal, you're right. I'll make the edit to reflect that.
- Thanks a lot again: You've been very thorough and a great help. Consider it a debt. :D Murtaza Aliakbar (talk) 15:56, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
