Rafik Halim (talk) 16:55, 30 April 2009 (UTC) There aren't any copyright problems with this page
Untitled
[edit]- The image has a copyright mark embedded, which means it cannot be used in the article. —C.Fred (talk) 17:01, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
- If the copyright owner has posted a release somewhere that the image can be freely reused, including commercial use, then we can include it, but we'll need to verify that claim first. —C.Fred (talk) 17:02, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Rafik Halim (talk) 17:31, 30 April 2009 (UTC) Copyrighted Image removed and replaced with another image
- Removing the copyright notice does not make the image free; if anything, it makes it a grosser violation. —C.Fred (talk) 17:38, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Rafik Halim (talk) 17:42, 30 April 2009 (UTC) There is no violation, the person who took the picture is my friend, and she authorized me to use the picture, how would you want me to confirm that ? I am sorry for all the questions, but that's my first article to post.
- She can email Wikipedia. Again, make sure she knows that for the image to be useable, she must consent to any and all derivative uses of the image, including commercial uses. The non-free content guidelines should include instructions on that kind of a release. Alternatively, if she posts the image at a website she clearly owns with a statement that the image is licensed under Creative Commons, GFDL, or similar license, that is sufficient evidence. —C.Fred (talk) 17:46, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Rafik Halim (talk) 17:48, 30 April 2009 (UTC) Got your point, and I am sorry for all what was happening, it took me a while to know why the image is being removed. Thank you for explaining.
- Also, how does the photographer know the subject? Everything's interconnected enough that it sounds like there may be a conflict of interest with this article, especially given some of the flowery language. —C.Fred (talk) 17:50, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Rafik Halim (talk) 17:56, 30 April 2009 (UTC) Let me remove your doubt's; Maestro Nayer Nagy is a conductor in the Cairo Opera House. In the past 10 years he was able to make several very successful concert with our choir (The Cairo Celebration Choir mentioned in the last paragraph). The choir consists of 120 amateur singers and we work in different fields. I'm into engineering and web design. Others are into graphics and creating logos. We have 3-4 professional photographers in the choir and we are collaborating to create this wiki page for Maestro Nayer. That's why when I got the very first warning message, I contacted my friend Miriam Benyamein (the photographer of the picture in question) and she confirmed that there are no problems what so ever if I decide to add the picture.
- Well, that confirms my suspicion about the conflict of interest.
- And there are problems with the picture currently, in that you're passing her work off as your own. —C.Fred (talk) 18:07, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Rafik Halim (talk) 18:12, 30 April 2009 (UTC) Well, I took your advice and I asked her to create an account and upload the picture. In fact, she'll be the one doing the final edits in that. If the picture problem is solved, are there any other problems that can be under the copyright umbrella ?
Copied source
[edit]Rafik Halim (talk) 18:24, 30 April 2009 (UTC) At the moment, I can see that the article is flagged for speedy deletion, and I don't understand why, especially that now I'll have the picture copyright problem fixed. What kind of more references do you need ? and why is there a conflict of interest ?
- You have simply copied the prose from the linked article. This is plagiarism and, since Wikipedia is freely licensed, such material cannot be used in any article. Feel free to write your own brief summary but copying others' work will only lead to further deletion. Sillyfolkboy (talk) (edits) 18:36, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Rafik Halim (talk) 18:44, 30 April 2009 (UTC) I have deleted the parts taken from other websites and I kept the part only written by me, at least for now.
Rafik Halim (talk) 13:28, 1 May 2009 (UTC) Ok, here are the latest updates on the article, I removed anything that was taken copy/paste. The picture was uploaded by the photographer and I have permission to use it. I am going to be adding a few lines everyday till I am done with writing, hopefully before 5/5/2009. Please let me know if I am going on the right track or not.
Rafik Halim (talk) 19:26, 1 May 2009 (UTC) I am done with 90% of my modifications, please take a look and let me know if this is acceptable.
- Just a question: The person who donated the picture does realise that anyone can now sell that picture and make profit from it without giving her anything, don't they? Released pictures are also made available for commercial use. Sillyfolkboy (talk) (edits) 04:12, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
Rafik Halim (talk) 20:09, 4 May 2009 (UTC) Yes, she does know that, that's why I insisted that she would be the one who uploads it.
Rafik Halim (talk) 00:28, 5 May 2009 (UTC) I have permission from the author of the www.cairocelebrationchoir.com to add any of its content to the Wiki Page
- In that case you should follow the instructions I left at your talk page. Until we have permission, the article needs to stay blanked. Also, you should sign (~~~~) at the end of your messages, not the beginning. – Toon(talk) 13:42, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
