History of the air station - closed or not?

[edit]

The History section says, "...all U.S. air activity ended at the airfield on 11 March 1947.... In 1974, the left-wing Government of Iceland's new proposal to close the base... " The first sentence implies that the base was closed. The second sentence introduces a proposal to close the base, some 27 years later. Unless one of the dates is a typographical error? Were both events in the same year?

DouglasHeld, good catch. That 1974 sentence was added out-of-chronology order and made it very confusing. I've moved that sentence and its ref. Schazjmd (talk) 16:24, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Keflavik Air Base

[edit]

Most recent English-language sources that I've found use "Keflavik Air Base" for the facility under its present, Icelandic operation. Would it be preferable to either rename this article or start a new article covering use of the facility since the 2006 decommissioning of NAS Keflavik?
