Problems with this article

[edit]

This is a very poor article, but that's probably because "nature photography" encompasses a wide range of genres. With other genres broken out to the level of Aerial photography being separate from Strip aerial photography, or Portrait photography being distinct from Candid photography and Environmental portrait, it seems like at the very least landscape and wildlife photography should be separated!

These genres are approached with entirely different techniques and equipment; the only thing they really have in common is being taken outdoors.

I'm going to rearrange the article in a way that's more clear and more straightforward, in the hopes that a better starting point will attract more readers who will further improve the paper. If anyone is mortified by my changes, you can always revert them.

I have turned Landscape Photography into its own article as it is a vast subject that encompasses a huge chunk of all the photos ever taken, Nature photography is merely one part of it, though nature photography is not necessarily Landscape (it can be considered portrait or macro).

Many famous landscape photographs contain people, sometimes hundreds. A photograph of a beach is still a landscape, and so is one of a city, a macro photograph can be considered a landscape. The landscape is a very broad term and does not necessarily have to have anything to do with nature photography or classical landscape painting, though it feeds into these. You can have urban and industrial landscapes, a single room can be landscape, and a portrait of a lamp-post can be landscape.

I am not entirely sure why some links in the external links have been removed, while others have not. I would like to propose that either we let all external links in (in violation of WP: EL policy), or remove them all... --Naturespace (talk) 14:19, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that current practices on external links are inconsistent. I think we should remove them altogether, as most of the ads in this section appear to be self-promotion. Jenafalt (talk) 12:17, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well-Known Nature Photographers

[edit]

The well knows list is pretty poor. Clyde Butcher is hard "well known" even if his work is of a high standard.

I agree that the 'Well-Known Nature Photographers' need looking after. I suggest that a list is maintained on this page of possible additions to the list. Then, when the articles are written, they can be copied over to the main page. This is what I have seen removed from the page:

It's worth looking at the Photographers page (and talk page) for an example of where this has been done before. (Note that there isn't even an entry for nature/wildlife in the key!)

Of the list above, my personal opinion is that John Shaw is definitely a notable nature photographer, and Andy Rouse is definitely a notable wildlife photographer. Of the rest, I know little, I will be researching them all further. Vlad259 18:12, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The experience we've had with the List of Photographers list is that once started, many people want to add their names to the list. This puts the article's regular editors in the precarious position of either watching the list completely overwhelm the article or having to say no to a lot of people. The only fair means that has been proposed is to limit the list to people with Wiki articles as the determination of notability for articles is a fairly well-defined process. This same process is also in place for the List of fashion photographers article. The downside is that many people start an article to claim notability and will fight tooth and nail over the AfD process. SteveHopson 20:08, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

photos added

[edit]

Hi, I have added some photos that I believe relate to this article. I have also included edited some captions to include technical details of the photograph. Hope this is OK. Ta. Johnscotaus (talk) 05:50, 28 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have placed the photographs on the right-hand side of the article: Should we have a gallery of photographs at the end of the article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnscotaus (talkcontribs) 05:53, 28 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
