[edit]This project is for Bio 4700 - Interdisciplinary Applications of Biology. My proposal for this page would be to add a section on the programs and services of the NRCS. I would also like to expand this page into separate sections that give more specified detail on certain subjects such as soils, water, air, plants, animals, etc... Also I think maybe a careers section on this page would serve well to give information on scholarship programs and employment opportunities. I am sure as I think more about this page there will be more that I would like to do and I will try to keep those ideas updated here.Jjohns18 (talk) 20:10, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
I did a little formatting on the stuff you added, I hope thats ok.Here is my plan: There is a good history of when why the NRCS was founded, as well as its general purpose and goals. I would like to add more sections.
- Programs & Services: specific tasks that the organization handles. They do work with land/soil use, water, and air quality. Each of these aspects may have their own section depending on how much info there is for each one.
- They also seem to be active in promoting energy saving and conservation tips, so I may link to those areas of Wikipedia if it is applicable.
- I may try to see what similar organizations exist in other countries and add a section of links to those pages on Wikipedia (if there are any).
- There is a list of “see also” links at the bottom of the page that do not have very much context within the article, so I will try to incorporate information on the NRCS involvement in relation to those other articles; for example, for the link out “Dust bowl”, I would like to add some info on what the organizations role was in relation to the dust bowl, and so on.
- The only graphic on the page is the logo for the department. I will try to find some relevant pictures for the organization or work they have done.
It looks like some of our topics are overlapping so hopefully we can try not to step on each others toes.

I accidentally did a little editing while not signed in. I did the "Conservation Technical Assistance Program" paragraph Crussoma (talk) 16:47, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
I added sections on careers and scholarship information. I plan to finish up on that section with internship opportunities shortly. Jjohns18 (talk) 16:13, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
I am planning on adding a soils section and some sub sections to both that and the water section. Jjohns18 (talk) 15:12, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
I am also going to add a section of plants and animals and many subsections to it as well, I am going to do this rather than the soils section Jjohns18 (talk) 16:06, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
ND Eowyn Review of “Natural Resources Conservation Services”
[edit]This is a great looking article. I see that quite a bit of useful information has been added to this page since you started, and it is greatly improved. For future improvements I might suggest linking out to other Wikipedia pages. So far, there are few links to other pages in the new sections. To use an internal Wikipedia link simply use double brackets around a word to link to the Wikipedia page with that title [ [ word ] ]. The opening sentence stating what Natural Resources Conservation Services does is not specific about what type of help they provide to landowners and farmers. It might be good to list a couple of services or types of services the provide somewhere in the opening section. The second paragraph somewhat answers those questions, but putting something in the first might help. The introduction mentions contributions made to soil surveying. It might be good to add a section talking about what they do related to soil since there are already sections on water, plants and animals. Since many people simply skim an article without reading every sentence, it might help to put the focus or main point of the body paragraphs closer to the beginning so that the first sentence or two will give you an idea of what it is about. Remember this is more like an encyclopedia entry than an essay. The article could use some pictures, charts, graphs, etc… Overall it looks like an informative article. I hope this criticism is helpful. ND Eowyn (talk) 03:39, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
john one of your sources (#40) is not linked right. Crussoma (talk) 15:57, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
I moved some sections down under technical resources because they were floating around the top of the page without much context. Crussoma (talk) 03:03, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
