National flag

[edit]

Absolutely wrong information. Flag in this section is OFFICIAL(just old Soviet Union variant), but this does not and can not guarantee that it became national. National flag of Belarus has longer history than particular soviet republic. This soviet flag is closely related to independence loss. At the moment of this flag creation Belarus was not free country (bolsheviks/russian communists/ aggression against BPR ). To claim this is the same as to say that russian national flag is the flag of Soviet Union and national flag of Germany should contain swastika. Nonsense.

In section "Unofficial symbols" currently exactly NATIONAL flag is present.

Returned sense to the article - corrected official and national.

I laughed a lot about flora and fauna information. Thanks for a joke. Lisouczyk1 (talk) 14:48, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Until the law changes, the current official and national flag was the symbols adopted in 1995. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 18:10, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What kind of low should change in case of dictatorship? There's no low , no elections. Don't you see difference between national and official symbols ? Your last update perverted the sense of the article and put absolutely wrong information. I cannot agree with you and accept that one of the oldest ethnos of Europe has history and national symbols started at 1951 ! I'm waiting for a distinct clarification of your personal POV, if not present undo will be applied.Lisouczyk1 (Return Fire) 08:10, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
As I said, a 1995 vote was passed (I know it is disputed) that changed the symbols of Belarus. Until a new law is passed to restore the 1991 flag and coat of arms, the current symbols of Belarus will be considered the national flag. I am not sure if English is your native language or not, but in English, the official flag is called the national flag and so on. The 1991 flag is important to Belarusians because not only it was a historic flag, but those who oppose Lukashenko use that flag. However, it is not a legally established symbol since 1995 in Belarusian law and we have to note it here. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 13:16, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Pardon. It changed official symbols of Belarus, but not national. Nation lives longer than changing powers, especially foreign origin. If , for example , dutch flag was changed at the time of nazi occupation, what would we tell? Dutch national symbol changed, or dutch official symbol changed because occupation administration uses them? Would you poke something with swastiks to dutch people telling them "this is your national symbol"? Do you doubt that "vote" would pass? English is not my native language, but I start to doubt that's your too. Just tell me what would dutch guys do with you after that? At least I know what is national and historic belorussian flag. I'm sure that terms "official" and "national/historic" are more accurate than for example "unofficial" Lisouczyk1 (talk) 15:52, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Additionally. What "law" are you talking about? 1) Less than half of voters accepted change. 2) Changing symbols broke constitution on which Lukashenko swore to protect it. 3) Isn't constitution highest law of the country? Lisouczyk1 (talk) 16:05, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The 1991 symbols are now under the former symbols header, the unofficial symbols are just the flower and bison. The only reason why those are unofficial is because they are not defined in any Belarusian legislation that I could find. Constitutionally, the only symbols that are defined as "national" is the flag, arms and anthem. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 15:57, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It looks a bit more correct. But still cannot make from Lukashenko's coat-of-arm the national symbol. Dutch guys would beat you :) Lisouczyk1 (talk) 16:11, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm lost :( User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 16:15, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Let's use "official" and "historic" terms instead of "national" and "former". Lisouczyk1 (talk) 16:20, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am willing to use historic, not sure about official. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 16:24, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's hard to imagine something more official than that. Isn't it used on official level for ceremonial purposes? Lisouczyk1 (talk) 16:29, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The current flag is used as a national flag; used for official purposes at home and abroad and also used to represent Belarus (with the exceptions we noted of the groups who continue to use the 1991 flag). User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 16:43, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This flag could be even created by pinguins in Antarctica and officially used in Belarus for representing anything, but will never become national for belorussian people. You are steadily moving to personal POV. Lisouczyk1 (talk) 11:59, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I checked the official translations of the Belarusian Constitution, they do use "national" when talking about the symbols in Article 19. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 16:52, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Constitution was re-written by Lukashenko. As result these symbols are symbols of Lukashenko and they cannot be "national" or "historic". They only officialy are representing current regime. It would be wise to plase section "Repressions for national symbols" in Belarus. Additionally there's such a small problem - absence of election. Please explain me how this simbol can be "national" for belarussian people if it was created in Moscow in 1951?Lisouczyk1 (talk) 11:50, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Moreover, your information clashes with other wiki pages on different languages, where it is clearly stated for Pahonia "traditional national coat-of-arms of Belarus". Lisouczyk1 (talk) 13:55, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am not worried about the other wikiprojects. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 17:32, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately for you I do worry about this one. Lisouczyk1 (talk) 17:51, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

GA Reassessment

[edit]
This discussion is transcluded from Talk:National symbols of Belarus/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.

I am fulfilling a request to open this reassessment. Unfortunately, I notice that not all the content has a verifiable, reliable source. In addition, the article has little information (esp. third party sourced) for context. I find more info about Belarusian symbols in reliable books (such as [1][2][3]) which would ideally be included for third party commentary. (t · c) buidhe 05:47, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
