Which bodies to list

[edit]

There's been a bit of a debate over which entities to include, especially those from non-English speaking countries, with some deletions and additions.

A lot of the national students' unions are not terribly well known at all outside their native languages and variously three conventions seem to operate simultaneously - use the original language name, translate the name into English (some appear to have a standard English version of the name) or refer to them using the local national union's terminology (i.e. the "Such & Such National Union of Students" or "Such & Such National Students Association").

The third convention is obviously informal, but whichever of the other two is followed determines whether or not some of the entries should be on the disambig list. Note also that on National Unions of Students in Europe all the members are currently listed by English names, although many don't have articles at all.

Can I suggest that this page should list all entities whose name translates (or officially gives its name in English) as "National Union of Students" give or take adjective placeing? Timrollpickering 15:13, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
