Note
[edit]NOTE-India made significant contribution to awareness about harmful effects of tobacco in India under the leadership of Dr Sharad G Vaidya and continues to do so under the leadership of Dr Shekhar Salkar. One important contribution is that NOTE was responsible for India's first anti-tobacco law was passed in Goa (The Goa Prohibition of Smoking and Spitting Act, 1997; Goa Act 5 of 1999). This law has resulted in similar laws passed in rest of India. The anti-tobacco campaign and the law have resulted in several lives being saved in Goa - Over the subsequent 10 years the morbidity and mortality from tobacco related diseases (e.g., heart attacks) were reduced significantly. This is an important contribution to humanity and thus makes it important to record it in Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jsvaidya (talk • contribs) 10:19, 6 December 2015 (UTC)
