Spreadsheet
[edit]Some of the titles in the spreadsheet could be clearer? Town/City seems to refer to the building location which may not have been a town or city, so perhaps "Building location" instead. Year is possibly launching year. Type - type of vessel. Location - latest known location. Is it possible to freeze the header row in such a long list? Only food for thought. Legal protection
[edit]What is not clear from this article is whether being on the register offers any form of legal protection to the vessels, or places any duties on their owners, comparable to listed buildings. Does anyone have sources confirming this, please? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:50, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
- See [1], particularly the answer to "If I nominate my vessel for the National Register of Historic Vessels, will any subsequent work on the vessel or its use or sale be affected by heritage restrictions?" The short answer appears to be "no" apart from the issue of export restrictions. I would look into this more, but the non-Wikipedia world intrudes. ThoughtIdRetired TIR 11:17, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
Correction needed to four names on thee list.
[edit]The Great Britain; Nomadic; Robin and Shieldhall should not have their names prefixed 'SS'. Whilst they were/are steamships, it does not form part of the name (as given at launch) of a vessel. It is a categorisation matter, similar to PS Paddle Steamer; MV Motor Vessel or RMS Royal Mail Ship. 86.12.208.62 (talk) 04:00, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- Agree; have moved those, and a few others, but have left the "HMS" group for the moment. It is established that WP does not consider HMS as part of the name, but as a prefix (hence not italicised); my preference would be to also list these ships by their actual names. - Davidships (talk) 19:08, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
