I'm going to see if there is any information on 2004's winner. I'm quite interested in this article: I was a national finalist in 1999. Mike H 01:21, Jul 17, 2004 (UTC)
Clean Up
Will someone with more experience fixing wiki tables, fix this article? I have tried, but have failed to produce a suitable result. Dickclarkfan1 (talk) 20:44, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
Really?
I was a state winner in 2002 and I'd like for this artical to be developed even more.
I just won my school's bee today and took the written test.Icelandic Hurricane 01:22, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
- Now I just found out that I made the state level! Icelandic Hurricane 14:57, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
I won for my school this year. Jntg4 not logged in. Took the test to. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.77.155.231 (talk) 22:53, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
gonk
I don't know whether or not this article should be expanded to include all 50 state finals plus DC and the territories (if the territories participate; I can't remember - it's been 6 years since the last time I participated). It would bulk up the page and leave information interesting to only a few hundred people on here. And I know what I'm talking about - I was in the WA state bee four years running ('96-'99); met Fite, Kerchner and Haddad-Fonda; and never got any further (farther?) than 4th place in '98. But it was good. Finally made those little bastards at school sit up and pay attention.
Good luck, little comrades.
Wareq
- I met Kyle Haddad-Fonda in Washington back in 1999. He and his family were all very nice. But yes, I think an overview of how students get to the state level, and a description of what goes on there (I competed in DoDDS, so we didn't have a "state level" per se, just written tests) would be beneficial for the article. Mike H 15:37, Jun 3, 2005 (UTC)
Sure, adding that part of the procedure seems reasonable. What's DoDDS? Wareq 02:23 11 June 2005 (whatever the merde UTC means)

Summary of question material?
It could be cool if someone wrote something about the content of the questions, and linked to Wikipedia articles on topics within geography, etc. I might do that if I have extra time someday. Ak13 05:02, 7 August 2005 (UTC)
Articles about winners
As per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Felix Peng and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kyle Haddad-Fonda, people who are merely notable for winning this bee are unlikely to meet our inclusion guidelines for biographies at the present time. Please review these discussions when contemplating the creation of new articles.--Eloquence 23:19, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Procedure
I have made massive changes to the procedure section; hopefully this is now more comprehensive than before. There may be points that need clairification, but I think I got the procedure down.
Competitor's name: William Niday
I, having won the Nevada State Geographic Bee, am William Niday. However, at said Geographic Bee, I was officially referred to as "Bart Niday." Because of that, I thought that it would theoretically be more encyclopedic to list me as "Bart Niday"; however, it might be less encyclopedic, seeing that "William Niday" is my official name. So, would it be reasonable to change that? Bart133 (t) (c) 18:33, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Is there a source which gives the name William Niday as an alias for Bart—or for the Geography Bee winner? —EncMstr 18:44, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I have the official Geographic Bee list of participants for Nevada, and it lists me as "Bart Niday." Would that count as a source? Bart133 (t) (c) 20:19, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
New Winner
This years winner is Caitlin Snaring.
Can the table be editted?
More Flattering Pictures
To be honest, most of these pictures make them look mentally retarded. Also the quality is rather poor.Isaiah A. 18:24, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
- I must agree. The first picture, when expanded, is pretty bad. Sseballos 14:35, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
- If anyone can offer better GFDL pictures, then be my guest. To be fair, more often than not at that age a lot of those kids aren't exactly socially apt. Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 09:12, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
- But I mean really. I watched the finals on TV and nobody looked this mentally disabled. They didn't look this bad. Sseballos (talk) 20:59, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Removing the table
The 2007 geo bee has long passed. Do you think the table of state finalists should be removed? Thegreatglobetrotter 14:15, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Not yet. Wait until the next state competition and then update it. Sseballos (talk) 20:58, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Factual Evidence
I see no references, and a closer look reveals much of the information to be different from reliable sources such as The Geography Bee-Complete Preparation Handbook. I suggest that this article undergo a peer review. Calvin 1998 (talk) 01:13, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
2008 State winners
Done Can someone put the info into a table from the website given? I almost had it done, but then my computer shut down...twice! If someone else wishes to, please do, but I'm not wasting anymore time trying to do that. SpencerT♦C 02:02, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- Completed. Thanks, whoever did it. SpencerT♦C 00:47, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
James Williams
I added the fact that he was a finalist for the national MSSB and SO, but I haven't provided a source. GlobeGores (talk page | user page) 23:52, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
Source
I found a source for most of the intro a short while back, but I can't find it again. →Dyl@n620 14:43, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
2009 winners commented
I commented (<!-- ... -->) the state winners for 2009 as there is no official source of these winners. Thanks! WhaattuSpeakwhat iDone 02:45, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
New Pictures
Does anybody have permission to add new pictures? I have good ones from the 2010 Nationals that could be added. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Smeeko (talk • contribs) 16:43, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
State Winners List
Do we need lists of state winners from every year? I think this falls under WP:INDISCRIMINATE (especially point 5). The overall winners list is fine, but listing the list of state winners is clearly unnecessary. I'm going to remove, but because it is such a big removal, feel free to discuss here. SpencerT♦C 21:06, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
Hi Spencer.
Kids love to see their name in the winner's list. It is a great accomplishment. My daughter won state in Colorado this year and last year. Could you please re-add the state winners back? Thanks Enrico Contolini at www.geokid.org — Preceding unsigned comment added by Smeeko (talk • contribs) 20:46, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
- I understand your point, but the state winners' names are published in many other news organizations throughout the United States, as well as by National Geographic itself. However, this Wikipedia article is not the place to include such a list. See the link I provided above for Wikipedia guidelines about listings such as that. Thanks, SpencerT♦C 19:07, 10 April 2011 (UTC)
State Day
Well, it's April 5, and all the state bees are being held today. More information to come as day progresses. (Note: I got 11th in Maryland one year). Revolution1221 (talk · email · contributions) 20:52, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
