Clean Up

I was a state winner in 2002 and I'd like for this artical to be developed even more.

I don't know whether or not this article should be expanded to include all 50 state finals plus DC and the territories (if the territories participate; I can't remember - it's been 6 years since the last time I participated). It would bulk up the page and leave information interesting to only a few hundred people on here. And I know what I'm talking about - I was in the WA state bee four years running ('96-'99); met Fite, Kerchner and Haddad-Fonda; and never got any further (farther?) than 4th place in '98. But it was good. Finally made those little bastards at school sit up and pay attention. Good luck, little comrades.

I met Kyle Haddad-Fonda in Washington back in 1999. He and his family were all very nice. But yes, I think an overview of how students get to the state level, and a description of what goes on there (I competed in DoDDS, so we didn't have a "state level" per se, just written tests) would be beneficial for the article. Procedure

I have made massive changes to the procedure section; hopefully this is now more comprehensive than before. There may be points that need clairification, but I think I got the procedure down.

Competitor's name: William Niday

I, having won the Nevada State Geographic Bee, am William Niday. However, at said Geographic Bee, I was officially referred to as "Bart Niday." Because of that, I thought that it would theoretically be more encyclopedic to list me as "Bart Niday"; however, it might be less encyclopedic, seeing that "William Niday" is my official name. State Winners List

Do we need lists of state winners from every year? I think this falls under WP:INDISCRIMINATE (especially point 5). The overall winners list is fine, but listing the list of state winners is clearly unnecessary. I'm going to remove, but because it is such a big removal, feel free to discuss here. Hi Spencer. Kids love to see their name in the winner's list. It is a great accomplishment. My daughter won state in Colorado this year and last year. Could you please re-add the state winners back? I understand your point, but the state winners' names are published in many other news organizations throughout the United States, as well as by National Geographic itself. However, this Wikipedia article is not the place to include such a list. See the link I provided above for Wikipedia guidelines about listings such as that.
