Disputed

[edit]

"...accurate account of the Zulu people..."? Hardly. It has been known for decades that Isaacs was an utterly unreliable source who invented and plagiarized and distorted as he saw fit. Cf. the review in Athenaeum (1836) about his reliability: "...very suspicious [...] obvious marks of exaggeration."

See Wylie (1992) Hist. Afr. 19: 411-433. Dysmorodrepanis (talk) 00:14, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The 1836 missionary article in Athenaeum doesn't refer to Isaacs: https://books.google.de/books?id=s7lHAQAAIAAJ&pg=PA327&dq=%22cruelties+came+from+a+very+suspicious+quarter,+and+bear+obvious+marks+of+exaggeration%22&hl=de&sa=X&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q=%22cruelties%20came%20from%20a%20very%20suspicious%20quarter%2C%20and%20bear%20obvious%20marks%20of%20exaggeration%22 --2003:E5:ABC3:B000:F817:DCB0:1244:7282 (talk) 14:52, 9 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed the word "accurate" and provided links to Isaac's text and to a criticism of his work. Martinvl (talk) 08:05, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Can the "Dispute of accuracy" banner be removed? The text of the article now reflects this inaccuracy. Martinvl (talk) 14:03, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
