Place of Birth
[edit]According to this Wikipedia Article: "Nandan Nilekani born in small town Sirsi in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka but presently living in Bangalore. was born in 1955 at Vani Vilas Women and Children Hospital, a government run hospital in Bangalore, Karnataka, India to Konkani speaking family." (30th March 2014).
Was he born in Sirsi or in Bangalore? Does the contributor want to state that Nilekani was born twice :) ? 106.51.61.23 (talk) 07:41, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
- have referred subject's self published website which indicate POB as Bangalore. Have updated article accordingly.Prodigyhk (talk) 04:56, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
Middle name
[edit]What is his middle name? His father's name is Mohan[1] or Manohar [2]
- as per the GOI election portal, no middle name included. [1]
Noticed a bug on GOI site, the actual affidavit for Nilekani is not available to download from the GOI election portal. Only able to download Ananth Kumar affidavit from the GOI site. Prodigyhk (talk) 05:34, 16 April 2014 (UTC)
- regard middle name "Mohan" the only valid document is the Aadhar card image posted on twitter. Since, WP does not allow us to cite from twitter, we can not include this.
- regard middle name "Manohar", not able to find any valid document to confirm this. Only sources are media articles which "may" have picked up from this WP article. Request fellow editors to check and advice. If none of us can find any valid document to cite, we can remove this from the article. Prodigyhk (talk) 05:56, 16 April 2014 (UTC)
- find the middle name "Manohar" was first introduced into this WP article on 22/Dec/2010[2] by an user technoindya. No valid sources cited. Prodigyhk (talk) 06:14, 16 April 2014 (UTC)
- If any editor has new sources predating the 2010 WP edit for the "Manohar" middle name, please provide here. If not, we will assume that the "Manohar" started as an edit mistake here in WP !! Prodigyhk (talk) 05:28, 17 April 2014 (UTC)
- Based on citations found by me: Times of India page. His father's name was "Mohan Rao Nilekani" and thats where the middle name comes from. Also the The Telegraph confirms. They mentioned his full name as "Nandan Mohan Nilekani". These are all from reliable newspapers and not from any blogs. Moreover, explains why social Networking sites are not a reliable source of information. But on my opinion, may be the twitter post can be considered, as the person concerned is publishing a scanned copy of Govt. Identity, not some random writing about himself. However, other than twitter, we do have two citations(mentioned before) converging to the middle name "MOHAN". --Deepon (talk) 05:21, 17 April 2014 (UTC)
- since, the subject's election affidavit and the subject's ex-employer UDID website, indicates the the subject's preference without the middle name. We can follow commonly recognizable name WP:COMMONNAME for this subject "Nandan Nilekani". We can remove mention of both middle names "Mohan" nor "Manohar". Prodigyhk (talk) 05:29, 17 April 2014 (UTC)
- Agreed, WP:COMMONNAME can be a solution in this case. But when we have reliable citations from newspapers (mentioned earlier) why shouldn't "Mohan" be mentioned. As "Manohar" seems to have no credible citations. --Deepon (talk) 06:00, 17 April 2014 (UTC)
- My opinion is that most Newspapers are written by a bunch of lazy people, who do no research. There many newspaper articles with "Manohar" middle name. They had just copied the error on WP :)

- Let us go with no middle name. Even the subject's book [3] does not mention middle name. Let us be sensitive of this and remove all middle name. Prodigyhk (talk) 04:09, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
