- It is believed that the "Just Say No" takeover defense term was first coined by Messrs. Anthony Chase Fountain and P.T. Waters with respect to the 1988 hostile takeover of Pillsbury by Grand Met plc. At the time, Messrs. Fountain and Waters worked at the New York law firm representing the bidder.
