Will probably start this sometime this weekend.
Sorry about the delay!
Lead/ibox
[edit]was a more important source for Solera than was the play itself.
-> "was a more important source for Solera than the play itself."Probably not necessary to link "play" in the lead bodyMaybe put"Va, pensiero, sull'ali dorate" / "Fly, thought, on golden wings"
in parentheses- all done --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:37, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
1. Composition history
[edit]Should probably fix the incomplete short-ref issue for Lessona; I don't have access to Budden, so I'm not sure what the shortref for Lessona should look like.- I wrote a full citation for Lessona (found here) and use the two together.
I made some edits on more minor issues- thank you! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:37, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
2. Performance history
[edit]In the US it appeared at the Astor Opera House in New York on 4 April 1848.
It should probably be mentioned whether this is the US premiere?- I believe the authors thought that was clear without adding a "first". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:00, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
Nabucco was presented by the Michigan Opera Theatre...surrounding the Old City of Jerusalem.
These appear to be missing inline cites.- Michigan: https://www.mlive.com/entertainment/saginaw/2009/02/michigan_opera_theatre_offers.html / https://www.pr.com/press-release/179711 / review: https://www.downriversundaytimes.com/2009/10/24/%E2%80%98nabucco%E2%80%99-debuted-at-detroit-opera-house/

- What would you suggest to use? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:57, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
- I would probably suggest the Sunday Times for Detroit and the Israeli Opera website for Jerusalem. GeneralPoxter (talk • contribs) 17:39, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
- I took the 2 and the 2019 one for that fact --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:14, 20 March 2022 (UTC)

4. Synopsis
[edit]"O dischiuso è il firmamento" could use an English translation- I used what my translator gave me. Possibly there's something different in case sung in English. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:00, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
Added a few links, but overall, the Synopsis reads well
5. Historicity
[edit]...but the proper name of the deity is Marduk...
Unsure of this wording; is "proper" the term used in the original source?- I can't see the original source. Looking at the two links (Bel and Marduk), it seems that there is a more complex relationship than just two names, but that's probably not relevant to the opera article. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:51, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
- If that's the case, then maybe something like "related to the deity Marduk" might be more appropriate than saying "the proper name of the deity is Marduk"? GeneralPoxter (talk • contribs) 17:39, 19 March 2022 (UTC)

6. Critical reception
[edit]...and, today, he has become comparatively obscure.
Not sure if this detail is necessary/relevant to the discussion of critical reception.- following, cut --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:53, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
Nabucco secured Verdi's success.
A large part of this paragraph quoted from a contemporary criticism of Nabucco, but it would be nice if contemporary praise were also quoted to reflect the overall positive reception.- Well, it made him the leading composer at the time, but then more famous works followed. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:56, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
Should probably mention "Immenso Jehova" sung in Act 4?- done --GA
At Verdi's funeral however, the crowds in the streets spontaneously broke into "Va, pensiero".
According to Phillips-Matz 2004 as cited in the Verdi article, there was also a chorus directed by Toscanini that sang Va pensiero. Should probably include that as well.- good idea --GA
I tried some reorganization- thank you --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:00, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
References
[edit]- Could use page numbers for ref 35, since it's the only citation in the entire section
- sadly, I don't have the two Parker sources #34, #35, used together --GA
- Many citations do not seem to use the cite template, but these should be passable at the GA stage.
- I could transform, but the article was written without them back then, and I wonder why the templates were not reverted citing citevar --
- Sources are reliable and neutral
Judgement
[edit]Few yet-to-be-addressed concerns, but overall, the article is ready to be a GA. Article is well-written, verifiable, broad, and neutral. I will put this on hold until March 26. GeneralPoxter (talk • contribs) 17:39, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
