[edit]I'm trying to find the NBC Sports logo circa 1986-1989. It was an all dark red version of the six feathered peacock (with the exception of the white body of the bird) logo that was introduced in 1986.TMC1982
1986-89 NBC Sports logo
[edit]Can someone find a better picture, as it is rather difficult to see the logo on the current image?

- Minor issue: I think the font on the 1986-89 logo (BTW, thanks for the separate image) is off slightly. It looks more like Tahoma. WAVY 10 19:36, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit]There's already an individual page for The NHL on NBC. So it's kind of pointless to add info on the NBC Sports page as well. TMC1982 May 29, 2006 (UTC)

Official name
[edit]As a point of reference the official name of the division is NBC Sports and Olympics, Inc. and Dick Ebersol is the Chairman of the Board of NBCS&O per the NBC Universal corporate website. May I suggest that this article be moved to NBC Sports and Olympics and a redirect be placed on NBC Sports. Simon Bar Sinister 08:35, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
- Since it's known on-air as NBC Sports, I think it would be better to leave the article as is, and note the official name in the article; in the same way that Shea Stadium directs you to William A. Shea Municpal Stadium.Khan_singh 01:45, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Ryder Cup Rights
[edit]Who had the rights to the Ryder Cup before NBC obtained them in 1991? Does the deal where NBC exchanged their Friday coverage for the next 4 Ryder Cups to ABC/ESPN in exchange for Al Michaels include NBC getting their Friday coverage for the Ryder Cup back after this deal/contract expires/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by TruckMatt (talk • contribs) 15:25, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
XFL
[edit]I think XFL should not be listed as part of NBC Sports former properties, since XFL coverage was never branded as such. I don't think any on-air personnel from NBC Sports ever took part. I think it was a production of the WWE. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.68.1.54 (talk) 21:46, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Proposed merger of NBC Formula One articles into this article
[edit]It has been proposed that Formula One on NBC, F1 Countdown, F1 Extra and F1 Paddock Pass be merged into this article. Discuss. DH85868993 (talk) 05:20, 2 September 2016 (UTC)
- Why?Khan_singh (talk) 05:22, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
- @Tvx1: Could you explain why you proposed the merger? DH85868993 (talk) 06:18, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
- @DH85868993: These are four recently created articles on NBC's F1 coverage. For some of these the creator of the articles even invented a name for the program (there is no such program as "Formula One on NBC"). These parts of NBC's F1 coverage are not that important that they warrant a standalone article each. All that is worth mentioning on NBC's coverage of the sport can easily be added to the already existing Formula One section in this article. After al Wikipedia is not a TV Guide. A similar article was created for "F1 on BBC" and it was merged into BBC Sport. Tvx1 14:44, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
- All four of those articles aren't necessary. Their information can be added to Formula One on NBC. Khan_singh (talk) 06:27, 5 September 2016 (UTC)
- Formula on NBC is one of the four. That's why I proposed merging them here (NBC Sports) into the Formula One section. Tvx1 10:10, 5 September 2016 (UTC)
- I disagree merging this With NBC because it's to do with nbc and it's early years of f1 and now so it completely fucking bullshit to merge this? I also think that Paddock pass, F1 Countdown and F1 Extra should be witten on Formula One on NBC and merge it there instead?92.21.247.6 (talk) 18:13, 6 September 2016 (UTC)
- This is NBC Sports article. It deals with all the sports coverage of NBC. There already is a section on the Formula One in this article and it can easily house all the information on NBC's sport coverage. Lastly there is no Tv program called "Formula One on NBC", so it's nonsense to have an article on one. Tvx1 18:38, 6 September 2016 (UTC)
- In order to contain all of the information pertaining to NBC's coverage of Formula 1 on this page, it would take up more space than basically any other NBC Sports property. And that would still be inadequate compared to a separate article. Also, I don't think that I quite understand your last point. You're saying that "Formula 1 on NBC" isn't used on air, is that right? I mean, NBC's coverage of F1 pretty factually exists, whether it uses that title or not. Khan_singh (talk) 04:34, 7 September 2016 (UTC)
- No that's not my point. My point is that no program titled "Formula One on NBC" exists. Regardless, I don't see anything in the four mentioned articles which justifies standalone articles. Your concern that this would blow up this section beyond proportion are unjustified. We don't have to copy every letter from those four articles in here. Merging them here would just add two to three sentences, because we only retain what's important. If works for BBC then surely we can make it work for NBC as well. Tvx1 10:27, 7 September 2016 (UTC)
- I really don't understand what you mean. Of course it exists. Khan_singh (talk) 01:03, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

To try to clarify...Is there an actual programme called Formula One on NBC or is it being used as an umbrella name for NBC's coverage? If the latter, if it were warranted, it could be used as the name of an article covering all NBC's F1 output. Overall though, it's probably not needed in the same way that separating BBC's F1 coverage from their sports coverage generally is also not. Eagleash (talk) 05:47, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
- No there is no actual program called "Formula One on NBC" (I don't know how I can spell it any clearer for user Khan singh. NBC does not broadcast a show called "Formula One on NBC". In fact, they don't use that title in any way) nor is that title even used an umbrella name for their F1 coverage. It's a complete invented title by the user who created the article, just like they did when they created the BBC article. NBC simply uses the name of the grand prix in question to name the actual program, just like BBC did.Tvx1 13:37, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
- I believe what Rowde was trying to do was create an article about the history of F1 coverage on NBC...however, he's confused things, as ever, due to the italicised (& inaccurate) title and the wording of the lead, which can easily be interpreted as referring to an actual broadcast programme. If an article were warranted, which I agree it isn't and all should be merged, it could be a useful portmanteau title to include all NBC F1 output, but without he italics and the implication that it exists as a broadcast entity. Eagleash (talk)
- Merge None of F1 Countdown, F1 Extra and F1 Paddock Pass are independently notable. No need for the article Formula One on NBC as highlighted above for the BBC F1 case- if we accept this, then we'd have an article on every sport on every TV network, which is not what we want. Joseph2302 18:07, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
- If you look, you'll notice that NBC Sports is not arranged like BBC Sport. There are no program details except as they relate to the general history of NBC Sports. Coverage details, such as which races are on which channel, are not notable to that history and wouldn't belong here. As for the title, there was never actually a program called Major League Baseball on NBC, but for simplicity's sake, all of baseball's iterations on the network are collected at Major League Baseball on NBC. Of course, I don't think that F1 is as significant to the history of NBC as baseball by any stretch. I don't even know that F1 on NBC is notable enough to have its own article. If it isn't, it should be deleted altogether. That's my opinion. Consolidate the other three articles into Formula One on NBC or delete all four of them, but merging them here makes no sense. Khan_singh (talk) 19:48, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
- I think you don't really have an idea of what the results of merger are. You seem to be convinced that we would copy the entirety of all four articles and then paste all of that here. That's not even remotely the case. In this case the four articles would be reduced to redirects to this article and if any content from them is reusable it would be added here. Looking at the four articles, actually next to nothing would be worth keeping. We would be merely adding one sentence here. I don't really see why you would so fiercely object that. Lastly if NBC does not use the Major League Baseball on NBC title, then why does the article claim they do use that branding? Tvx1 12:13, 10 September 2016 (UTC)
- The article calls it "the de facto branding," and it's just that. I thought that what you were proposing was something like F1's entry on BBC Sport, which would be totally unlike anything on this page. With that in mind, what would you add to this article? Khan_singh (talk) 21:27, 10 September 2016 (UTC)
- Well, the more I look a them the less I'm convinced there's anything worth moving over here. The most important information is already here. Therefore the four articles would simply be reduced to redirects. Tvx1 14:46, 12 September 2016 (UTC)
- I would just do that with Formula One on NBC and delete the rest. Even if it were being kept, the others don't warrant separate articles. And I doubt that anyone would be likely to search for them. Khan_singh (talk) 00:12, 13 September 2016 (UTC)

[edit]This section has really just become a list of almost everyone who works or has worked as a commentator on any NBC Sports telecast. Any suggestions on what to do with it? Infinite mission (talk)
