May I suggest that the list of towns that the N2 passes through appear in a separate box and only the major towns get mentioned in the text itself.

Great work!

Maybe in the future someone can add something on the proposed (now shelved) N1-N2 Winelands Toll Roads. Some of the upgrades they had for the N2 (Helderberg cut-and-cover tunnel, Sir Lowry Pass Tunnel, N2 dualing from Cape Town to Botriver) are worth mentioning. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ajay Mnyandu (talkcontribs) 01:50, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Map

[edit]

We need some sort of road map showing the route followed by the N2 and indicating at least the major towns along the way. This would be much more effective than the current listing of cities as we have it now Zunaid 12:48, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Merges

[edit]

I've started merging content from Settler's Way and Eastern Boulevard; I doubt that they have enough substantive information to warrant separate articles. Unless someone has an issue with this, I'll probably change them to redirects sometime. dewet| 19:54, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd keep both of them as separate articles — there used to be tram lines on both roads. Páll (Die pienk olifant) 22:50, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

N2 Wild Coast Toll Route

[edit]

I See We Have Mentioned That The "Wild Coast Highway" Is From "East London" To "Port Shepstone", BUT That The "Tolled Section" Will Only Be From "East London" To "Port Edward". What About The 40km Section From "Port Edward" To "Port Shepstone"?

The 23km Section Of The Current R61 Highway From The R620 Junction In "Southbroom" To The "Oribi Toll Plaza" In "Port Shepstone" Is Already Designated As A "Toll Road". So, Including The Remaining 17km Stretch From "Port Edward" To "Southbroom", Can't We Just Say That The ENTIRE Route From "East London" To The "Oribi Toll Plaza" In "Port Shepstone" Will Be Designated As A "Toll Road"? Chils Kemptonian (talk) 17:00, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's Alright. I've Already Edited The Article To Indicate That The "Tolled Section" Is From "East London" All The Way To "Port Shepstone" & Not Only To "Port Edward". Chils Kemptonian (talk) 12:26, 31 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ajay Mnyandu - A Question has been asked here! As we know, the R61 from the Oribi Toll Plaza to Southbroom is already a "toll road" & now, the text reads that there will be a "toll road" from "Port Edward" to "East London"! Now, isn't that short 17-kilometre section connecting "Southboom" & "Port Edward" also part of the "toll road"? How can we say that from the entire route, only that 17-kilometre section is "not" a toll road?
I am asking because of your edit just now. GeographicAccountant (talk) 14:37, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Basically, after the whole debacle over the Isipingo Toll Gate, SANRAL decided that only the 410 km between the Mthamvuna River (Port Edward) and East London would form part of the Wild Coast Toll Road, and not the entire stretch of the N2 between Durban and East London (including the new greenfields section). It is correct that the 23 km section between the R620 junction in Southbroom and the Oribi Toll Plaza (in fact the N2 between the Hibberdene offramp and the R620) is a toll road. Between Beaufort West and Southbroom, the R61 is not tolled so yes, that 17 km stretch between the EC border (Mthamvuna River) and the R620 is not a toll road Ajay Mnyandu (talk) 18:49, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just to add (imo) I don't think that people and businesses were against the Park Rynie Toll Gate (it would have made sense considering the length of the Durban to Port Edward stretch is 150 km and two toll gates (spaced 60 km apart) is fair, it was because the income from the EC toll gates (including Oribi and proposed Park Rynie) won't be enough to cover the costs to upgrade the South Coast N2 that SANRAL decided that they won't include that stretch of the N2 in the new plans
Those plans include upgrading the R102 between Park Rynie - Pennington, which desperately needs upgrading, dualling of the N2 between the R102 Hibberdene off ramp and the Umthentweni/St Faith's off ramp, and widening the entire N2 to four lanes (with divided and undivded sections). The second bridge over the Mthamvuna River will be built after the Msikaba Bridge is done (in 2025 possibly) meaning that the entire road may be completed in 2030 - 2035
Oh and BTW I'm not sure what will happen to the Ngobozi and Candu Plazas, I have a feeling that they may still build them in future because the N2 will be a toll road any way Ajay Mnyandu (talk) 19:05, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi all, by the way the Wild Coast toll road has always been an idea (since the 1970's, EIA was actually done in the 2000's, both the megabridges were fully designed before the 2010 world cup - so maybe someone should change the 'As of 2018') Ajay Mnyandu (talk) 01:54, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest anybody who "has the information" about anything related to this road (such as when the Idea was brought up, when the EIA was done, when it was officially agreed that the road will go ahead, etc) should "add the information" to the section, together with the "dates" & "citations" for each event. Map

[edit]

@TapticInfo, I see an additional map has been added to the introduction. Apart from the fact that it doesn't seem that much different from the one already in the Infobox,

Why does it look like there is an additional black line in the Wild Coast region of the map? Since when are there two different roads which are both designated the "N2" at the same time? Even just the shape of that additional black line is confusing and we need clarification on which roads form that part, that's if those roads are even a part of the N2 in the first place.

If it was an error, I suggest somebody fixes it by simply removing that additional line. We can't have that additional map looking even a little bit different from the one that is already in the Infobox. GeographicAccountant (talk) 13:33, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@GeographicAccountant
Seems there’s an issue with my data, there is not supposed to be a second line in the wild coast area, I’ll remove it in the meantime untill it gets fixed TapticInfo (talk) 15:14, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
