[edit]'Biography'
I do not seem to get the format right for the biography data. They are systematically deleted. I cannot write as well as the editors at Concord, but I tried to keep it digestible and sourced.
I think the quality of the following sources is good (links are in the main wiki):
Dallas Observer. N'Dambi interview[ you must suppose Gilbert's read through it, before it was published] and Yahoo music: well known source
confirm the data: Name of Birth Chonita Gilbert Date of Birth 1970 started singing with Badu in 1996 marriage from 88-90 or 91, one son
This is consistent with these sources, and it is the same everywhere you look, which includes interviews with ndambi herself.
The only source for a different date of birth is user BlueKeymgt. If you check the Dallas Texas State Records site (without paying, you can get a list of chonita gilberts, some with dob, you indeed find entries Chonita Gilbert from Dallas, age 40. If this is the same chonita as N'Dambi, the dob should become 1969. I cannot find any source to this, however, and this would be becoming own research anyway. I think it should be 1970 for the time being, as all the sources say so. Kohir-gabr (talk) 17:24, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
update: More sources are available now. The 1970 birth year was wrong, it is 1969. Gilbert is the name of her ex-husband. The 2 Dallas Observer interviews use both names Gilbert and Gillespie. Gillespie is the maiden name. This can also be seen from another source, the official Texas State Records marriage license applications. The line is
014060 GILBERT (...) 19 GILLESPIE CHONITA N 18 1/2/1988 57 DALLAS
There are enough sources now, and all these sources are verifiable and reliable. Second name Nicole is coming from the rnation.com interview, which is a weaker source. Date of birth is 1969. This is coming straight from the sources showing copyright applications by N'dambi for her songs. Many sources have 1970 as year of birth, like the Hellingh interview. I propose to leave that for a foot note, it is not important. Kohir-gabr (talk) 11:47, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

There is a lot of name-dropping, and it is kinda essayist. Does not seem encyclopedic to meBluekeyagcy (talk) 13:27, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
Agreed. I am working with N'dambi to create an accurate source. Most of it comes from inaccurate information on the internet from years ago. BlueKeyMgmt. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.107.218.2 (talk) 14:00, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- I did a large rewrite on the article. I added citations and addressed most of the concerns about it being too promotional. Marshall Stax (talk) 09:51, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
