Contested deletion
[edit]This page is not unambiguously promotional, because it has been created by an independent party with no connection to the publishing house, who is interested in documenting publishers of work which has been selected for inclusion in major UK book awards. Myrmidon currently has no space on Wikipedia, and the entry is not promotional.
A book by Myrmidon was selected for the Man Booker Prize shortlist, as per the references cited, and has authors who have won prizes such as the Becks Futures Award. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bmcollier (talk • contribs) 00:24, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
- phrases such as Their catalogue spans a wide variety of fictional styles are promotional--Vigyani (talk) 00:25, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
How is that promotional rather than descriptive? I'm happy to remove it, but it's a description of their output. I don't believe this speedy delete applies: "Note: An article about a company or a product which describes its subject from a neutral point of view does not qualify for this criterion." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bmcollier (talk • contribs) 00:33, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
- How a wide variety be defined. and please sign your talk with ~~~~, this article may qualify for wikipedia but the decision about delete/keep will be taken by an admin. --Vigyani (talk) 01:36, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, was that a question or a statement? "Wide Variety" means that they look as though they produce a lot of different sorts of books, rather than being a niche publisher. I can't think of a more succinct way of putting it.Bmcollier (talk) 10:19, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
- Here it was a question, but what I actually meant what that these kinds of phrases can not be used. A better sentence will be Their catalogue include fictional styles, from high literature to comedic science fiction, e.g. Toby Frost's Space Captain Smith series. --Vigyani (talk) 10:28, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
Can you point me to the style guideline that says this? I'm happy to change it if it's necessary but the original statement is more eloquent. How about "Their catalogue comprises work in a relatively broad range of fictional styles, from high literature to comedic science fiction such as Toby Frost's Space Captain Smith series" ? --Bmcollier (talk) 11:56, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
- WP:VAGUE can give you idea, what kind of words are not to be used. On another note is high literature is some particular type of literature or high is just to add importance ?--Vigyani (talk) 12:09, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
"High Literature" is a term widely used in English, related to High culture. See for instance http://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/high-literature --Bmcollier (talk) 13:40, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
It may make sense for an admin from the United Kingdom to take a look at the page, as they'll understand the importance of, for instance, the Man Booker Prize --Bmcollier (talk) 16:43, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
The Man Booker prize is one of the most important prizes in literature, as a few moment's research would have established and Myrmidon has twice been cited, once in the long list and once in the short list. Winners include Salman Rushdie, AS Byatt, Ben Okri, Hilary Mantel, Ian McEwan, Iris Murdoch, Kazuo Ishiguro, Roddy Doyle, Thomas Keneally, Margaret Attwood Icundell (talk)
