Talk:Myetrika of Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Ruthenia and Samogitia

That's what you call Old Belarusian language is widely known as Ruthenian language. As a mater of fact, it is not only Old Belarussian but also Old Ukrainian.--Lokyz 20:10, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
Would you please read the Belarusian_language#Old_Belarusian_2 and tell what you think? Yes, I know there are no explicit refs there yet -- and the article itself isn't completed, too. ---Yury Tarasievich 22:51, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- I can understand your urge to use Belarusian, just so it goes, that up untill XVIII-th century this language is called Ruthenian.
- And as for Grand Duchy of Lithuania Chanclery language it was merely a tool, and not everyday used language. They do differ.--Lokyz 10:38, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
- Lots of names changed their meanings since then. So what? All the namings are duly noted on the Belarusian language and the scientific reasoning behind the contemporary "Old Belarusian" naming (Karskiy), too. We do not live in the 18th cent., after all, and Ruthenian naming (noted on the Belarusian language) is now just a historical artefact. If such be your wish, provide a scientific source disclaiming Karskiy works. ---Yury Tarasievich 11:14, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
- As for "the everyday used language" vs. "tool" -- the article does NOT use neither of the terms. Verbatim: "...the materials originating from the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Ruthenia and Samogitia had been prepared mainly in Old Belarusian language." So, what's the problem? ---Yury Tarasievich 11:14, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
- Problem is Old Ukrainian:) What i mean by that, that this projection of Belarus to the past is not accurate if not to say POV'ed. Anyway, I do not want to start edit revert wars, so I do only suggest to change it. as a matter of fact I don't know neither who Karskiy is, nor his credability, would you care to give any reference to him in Belarusian language article?
- As for this article name - in English Wikipedia there are used English names - take a look here WP:Naming. so it should be Metrika instead of modern Belarusian trancribtion Myetrika (and it's a Latin word after all). You may want to take a look on these links to google book search: [1] and [2].--Lokyz 12:02, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
